My self-summary
I'm grounded in reality, but I still like to dream big. I like to stay physically and mentally active, and I enjoy the company of anyone who can make me challenge the way I think or see things from a fresh perspective. I like to laugh... a lot. I do it whenever I can, and ideally I'd like to find someone who can make me laugh even more. I love hiking, running, drag-racing (on the track, not on the street!) or anything that can get my blood pumping. I'm great with kids, but don't have any of my own. I'm a (not-so) hopeless romantic and a real, honest-to-goodness gentleman.

I'd like to believe I'm a good blend of old-fashioned and modern male ideals. I'll fix the car, unclog the drain or install a new light fixture, but I keep my place clean, bathe regularly and make home-made gnocchi like a pro. I'm not huge on football, but you're likely to catch me running a half-marathon or trapsing around in the woods getting ridiculously muddy. Yes, I'll watch that chick-flick with you (heck, I might even enjoy it), and yes I'll give your dad a firm handshake/impress your grandma with my manners. I'm a jack of all trades :)

Above all, I treat people with kindness and expect the same in return. I am kind, easy-going, and contemplative. I'm as likely to be serious as I am goofy... which is to say that I do both a lot. If you can keep up with that, I think we'll get along fine!
What I’m doing with my life
I work hard as an insurance claims adjuster, but I'm a writer at heart. I like getting a steady pay-check and having a career-path to follow, but once I walk out of the office I leave it behind me. In other words, I work to live--I don't live to work. I've been toying with the idea of writing a non-fiction, but I mostly do poetry. Also, I don't say that just to seem sensitive--I actually do, lol. I've got a children's book in the works, but it's super Secret Squirrel, and I won't divulge its plot unless I really get to know you.

If you can name an activity and it involves the out-doors, I'm game to try it. I usually stick to trail-running, hiking, etc but I don't like to limit myself :) I will give anything a go once. A few Septembers ago I left my house on a chilly morning at 3:30 and hiked Mt. Si before the sun came up--I'd have to say that was one of the most awesome (and painful!!) experiences of my life thus far.

I'm currently studying claims law as part of my career development, so I'm likely to have my nose shoved in a textbook a few nights a week.
I’m really good at
-Staying active
-Putting pen to paper
-Showing up in the nick of time when I'm really needed
-Karaokeing my BRAINS OUT!

I'm a crappy liar, a mediocre cook and a spastic dancer, but I do the best I can with what I've got and always strive to improve. Well, except for the lying thing. I'm pretty comfortable sucking at that :)
The first things people usually notice about me
The obvious one is my height (I'm between 6'2" and 6'3"), but I also get comments on my dimple and my smile quite a bit. If I'm out running, maybe my chicken-legs (I tend to wear shorts while running, even in the winter).

Also, fun fact: I have the uncanny ability to make any dog instantly love me. In my entire life, I can count three dogs I've met who haven't adored me from the get-go... and all had prior histories of abuse. I often find it easier to get along with dogs than people!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Cummings or Neruda, Trying to Save Piggy Sneed... There are a lot more, but meh.

The World, Kick-Ass, The Goonies, Hot Tub Time Machine, V for Vendetta, Say Anything, Better off Dead, American Beauty, Adventureland, Coraline, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You Man, Get Him to the Greek, Gattaca, Great Expectations, Superbad, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Up In Smoke, Life is Beautiful, Il Postino, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Clerks, Clerks II, Chasing Amy, The Usual Suspects, 100 Girls, Across the Universe,The Crow, 3:10 to Yuma, Just Friends, and many many more.

There's so much good stuff I could list here, but every time I start thinking about a food I like I get distracted and hungry. OK Mike, concentrate. I'm a sucker for sushi, Thai, Indian and Italian. I will ALWAYS have a soft spot for BBQ or a good steak, though. Cooking makes me happy. I make the world's best alfredo sauce, but the recipe rarely sees use because I'm pretty sure eating it more than once every six months would bring on premature heart failure (no, seriously). I also make a pretty decent chicken picatta with lemon risotto. Have been known to make home-made gnocchi, but only when I'm really in the mood to cook.
Six things I could never do without
-Pen and paper
-Green! Foliage, shrubs, moss, etc.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The decline of chivalry in the US, the difference between religion and faith, apathy, what I'm going to make for dinner or what I'm going to write about next. My mind is likely to wander onto any one of several topics depending on the time of day and how busy I've been...
On a typical Friday night I am
Out at a restaurant or bar with a few friends enjoying a drink or two, going for a long run or reading in my room. During the summer, I might be down at the drag-strip (what can I say, I love the smell of burnt rubber and gasoline!).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a man-luffa. There, I said it! >_< I'M SO ASHAMED!

Also, I clean up well and like 'suiting up' (if you get this reference, we would SO get along). I am pretty casual most of the time but really enjoy opportunities to get a little GQ once in a while.
You should message me if
-You read my profile
-You're not looking for a slick, cocky Rico Suave who takes himself far too seriously
-You are kind, compassionate and caring
-You have something intelligent or interesting to say :)

I don't mean to come across as rude at all, but I'm not as likely to respond to a 'Hi,' or a 'You're hot' as I am to a question or something thoughtful. I can go to any bar and make small-talk with a cute girl... it'd be nice to have an actual conversation!

As far as what I'm looking for in a potential match, it's important for a woman that I date to be able to stay in shape with me and enjoy going for runs, etc together, eating healthy and finding ways to stay active... however, it'd also be nice if we could splurge on the occasional cheeseburger (veggie burgers are also okay!) when we're feeling exceptionally naughty. You don't have to be a fitness guru, but if you don't enjoy working out a few times a week and living a healthy lifestyle, we may not have a lot in common. I'm also looking for someone who can be serious at times and a complete goof at others, and someone who wants to be swept off her feet. I'd like to find a best friend, lover, and partner in crime.

Despite what my profile may portray, I'm not always goofing around and really like someone who can also take it down a notch and be serious, too. I am careful with my money (do not read cheap :P) and would prefer someone who is the same. Height is irrelevant unless you're 7'6". I would love to meet someone who also knows God, but I am open-minded and will never cram my beliefs, however confident I am of them, down your throat.

I'm not big on IM's if I haven't talked to you before. Nothing personal, but I prefer to get to know someone a little bit through messaging first. :)
