My self-summary
I grew up as an Air Force brat so I've lived all over the place, but I fell in love with the mountains of NC a few years ago and I've been here ever since. I'm pretty nerdy - I like to read sci-fi and fantasy, play RPGs, and I even larp. Once I've been ripped away from my computer, I love camping, horses, biking, and the end of running a race (just not the beginning or the middle). I'm bright, energetic, opinionated, and highly accident prone. But that's okay - when I fall down the stairs and break something, I can (and will!) swear about it in at least four languages. ^_^

I hate cooking with an inexplicable passion and am fully capable of setting fire to a microwave with a single bag of popcorn (true story!). It's not that I can't cook, but there are only a few reasons worth cooking for and no longer being hungry is not one of them. I do like baking though, probably because when you're done you have tasty treats.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in school full time, studying civil engineering and researching weird concrete. I love my research with an inexplicable passion and I'm being slowly herded into academia. It's not what I expected but my work feels exciting and relevant.

Edit: Omigosh, I graduated! Now I'm working as a structural engineer and trying to remember I'm not allowed to wear pajama pants everyday. Rough!
I’m really good at
Learning languages, telling stories, organizing events, and getting slightly obsessed with my school work. Okay, really obsessed with my school work.
The first things people usually notice about me
People tell me they notice my eyes or my smile. I do love my eyes (is that vain?) but I think my smile is goofy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read voraciously and I don't really have favourite books... I usually pick a favourite author and read their entire work, whine when I'm out of books, and then move on to another author. Some of my recent past favourites have been George RR Martin, Greg Egan, Charles Stross, and Octavia Butler.

I don't watch a lot of movies but I prefer action flicks. I'll also shriek and scream at horror flicks, and fall asleep during dumb comedy plots.

I like a lot of different kinds of music but for the last couple of years I've been a pretty big darkwave kick. VNV Nation, Wolfsheim, bands like that. My running playlist is full of really awful pop music. I try to tell people it's just to annoy me into running faster but the secret truth is I like it. Don't tell anyone!
Six things I could never do without
My laptop, the internet, my ebook reader, someone willing to feed me, oxygen, and caffeine.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately I'm staying home, trying to log hours at work or get my homework down. It sounds terribly boring but I really enjoy getting straight A's and paying my rent on time. Adulthood is a bugger, you know? Saturdays are better for adventures. And of course, at least once a month I pack up my kit and kaboodle and go fight monsters with a padded piece of plumbing. While wearing butterfly wings, heck yeah!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Sometimes I start doing things ironically that annoy me and then, a few weeks later, I can't stop myself anymore. For example: I refer to myself as my cat's "mommy" (which I think is asinine) and I've been known to use lol- and netspeak in real life (which I believe is contributing to the degradation of the intelligence and literacy of society). I know it makes me a hypocrite, I want to stop, but I can't seem to make myself. I guess that's why it's called a meme.

I'm also probably not as out going as I like to think I am. I'm getting older and more settled and that doesn't really bother me, I just keep thinking it should.

You're willing to laugh at my math related puns and pick-up lines. :)
