My self-summary
I'm Michael, currently living in Tampa, FL. I like music, games (video games and board games) and just good old fashioned hanging out. I'm not bothered by much, unless someone misuses the word "literally", it drives me figuratively insane.

I'm a "jack-of-all-trades" nerd. I'm not into any one specific thing. I like comics, video games, Sci-Fi, fantasy. If it's cool and nerdy, chances are I'll dig it.

I used to describe myself as chivalrous, but that's just sexism disguised as manners. I respect women and I don't believe they need a man to protect them. That doesn't mean that I won't pull out your chair or hold the door for you, though.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm looking to go to school for culinary training. My goal is to become a chef.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at cooking. I enjoy trying new recipes and trying to learn different techniques. I also like to refine and tweak other recipes that I normally make. I have to say, I make a pretty mean bowl of chili!

I've recently started making my own jambalaya, and I can't seem to get enough of it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd have to say my hair, especially when it's due for a cut. I have natural curls that can get a bit unruly if it's too long.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I love fiction, primarily fantasy or sci-fi. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is my absolute favorite book. The story is compelling and the writing is clever and brilliant. I loved the Dragonlance series, specifically the works of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, as well as the Redwall series of books by Brian Jacques. I've also enjoyed historical fiction, I've read a lot of work by Bernard Cornwell (the Richard Sharpe series).

I've read World War Z 10+ times already. It's awesome!

I enjoy lots of different movies. From action-adventure (Die Hard, James Bond) to dramas (Shawshank Redemption). Comedies are great, too, but I prefer witty writing over the cruder / baser humor (example, The Producers over something like Scary Movie). Being a fantasy and sci-fi fan, I loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as the original Star Wars trilogy. I also have a soft spot for Japanese samurai movies (7 Samurai, 13 Assassins). I also enjoy movies that make me think or can get a genuine reaction from me (American History X). I also really enjoy animated movies, especially movies from Pixar, as they're fun and are very well written and put together.

Most anything on Food Network. I love "Iron Chef Amercia" and "Chopped". It's really awesome being able to watch what professional chefs can come up with with strange / exotic ingredients. "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" is another favorite, it brings a smile to my face seeing regular people being successful doing what they love.

Apart from food related shows, I value shows with.compelling characters or witty writing. "Doctor Who" takes the cake for.both of those criteria. "Dexter" is one of my favorites, as well as "The United States of Tara". "Castle" is my favorite network show currently, as I'm a big fan of Nathan Fillion. I also enjoy cartoons, like "Adventure Time" and "Regular Show".

My taste in music is very eclectic. From classic rock (The Beatles, Queen) to jazz & swing (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers) to electronic (Daft Punk), I tend to be able to enjoy something from every genre (except country/western, sorry). I'm also a huge Frank Sinatra fan, I grew up listening to him with my dad.

Working with musician's has also opened me up to the awesome local music we have in central Florida. My favorite local bands are, Zanesville, Samurai Shotgun and Sunshine & Bullets. I have a lot of respect for local musicians and, though I may not always like them, I'll always give them a shot.

Like my musical tastes, my food tastes are varied. Being of mixed race, I was introduced to a variety of different foods, I grew up with English and Chilean food. My go to favorites include Italian, Chinese, Mexican and American. I tend to treat myself to Chinese at least once a week. I'm usually willing to try something new, as long as it's not too wierd. I also really love BBQ, but can't have it too often (see below).

Within the past year I've begun eating a lot better. Less fatty, sugary and processed foods. More whole grain and more fruits and vegetables. Just because it's healthier for you, doesn't always mean it has to taste bad!
Six things I could never do without
My sense of humor - I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't laugh. It's much easier to handle all of life's worries when you can tell a great joke or just have good laugh. "Think off-center"

My sense of taste and smell - these are extremely important to me being an aspiring cook, soon to be chef. Being able to taste and smell allows me to not only to prepare foods, but to enjoy them as well.

My family - yeah, it's a bit cliche, but it's true. I love my family and, even though they get on my nerves sometimes, I don't know what I'd do without them. "I know there's better brothers but you're the only one that's mine."
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future. I hope to one day become a chef and eventually own my own business. I like to think about what kind of business I'll have. Will it be a walk in restaurant or a food truck? If it's a restaurant, white table cloth or diner? What kind of menu?
On a typical Friday night I am
Really depends on what's going on. If there's a show with some good local bands going on I'll try and check it out. If I'm not at a show I like to get a bite to eat with friends (or someone special), just have a good time and have good conversation.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I never learned how to ride a bicycle. Never really had, or took, the chance to learn.
