My self-summary
Vermont born and raised with phenomenal parents who instilled in me a sense of decency and decorum, two stellar sisters who taught me- among other things- not to wear pleated pants, and all this in a house we all still call home today. Not a day goes by when I don't consider myself a lucky man to have grown up as I did.

Words, I hope, that would describe me: curious, vivifying, optimistic, thoughtful, (com)passionate, animated, adventurous.

As for what I'm looking for, I tend to be drawn towards women who have a good blend of moxie, curiosity, quirk, intelligence and passion. I'm also far more compelled by photos that seem to capture moments than those that seem to capture looks, if that makes sense. Here's to hoping it's you!

Also, entitlement is a deal breaker and the everything-happens-for-a-reason mantra drives me batty.
What I’m doing with my life
I've worn many hats: wilderness guide for at-risk teens, coaching college students to stay in school, project manager during the school closure's in Chicago. My current one involves two things I really enjoy: being outside and using my hands. Actually it's three as I'm working with one of my best friends. Wait...better make that four- I have agency. And for all this I feel, indeed am, truly fortunate.
I’m really good at
Listening to my spidey sense.

I can sniff out funk from a long ways away. Likewise I'm quite adept at finding really cool folk to befriend.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I don't really look 38. After that, of late I've been told it's my hands. This is probably due to the nature of my work.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Too many to list. But here are a few that I've tackled of late
~NYTimes (a daily affair)
~Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth
~After the Music Stopped: The Financial Crisis, the Response, and the Work Ahead
~The Power of the Dog

MUSIC (just a smattering...like 'you' my interests run far & wide):
~In my car - Elvis, NPR
~In my apartment - War On Drugs, Tycho Radio, Bach
~In my earphones (read: at the gym or when riding my bike)- sundry DJ's

~Lebowski (this Dude abides)
~The Lives of Others
~Safety Not Guaranteed
~True Detective
The six things I could never do without
Amazing Amigos
Wilds and Wilderness
Fresh Fun Food & Lovely Libations
Marvelous Music Making Me Move or Mellow (out)
A Certain Special Someone who's Smart, Sweet and Sensational
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How online dating has now become fully commodified.

Did you know that Bangladesh has a population of 156 million and it's the size of Iowa?

The Schist disk. If you have any good explanations for what the hell that thing is, or why it was made, please tell me. Immediately.

The herd mentality and how it terrifies me. And does this explain why I eat meat with gusto and verve?!
On a typical Friday night I am
Like Ice Cube, I like to think I'm down for whatever.

So whether it's a picnic, a play, a dj, or a date
I'm mostly up for anything.....provided it's great.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once heard Michael Chabon's wife say that she loves her husband more than she loves her kids. My immediate reaction upon hearing this was 'That's awesome- I bet those kids are great!' Ideally I'd like something along these lines.

Speaking of authors, I'll probably judge you based on your booklist.

The Bay Area is hands down the most flaky place I've ever lived in. I'm hardly a perfect actor, but flaky I am not. Please move along if you are.
You should message me if
You're committed to taking care of your mind, body, and soul.

You want a life that isn't wholly defined by convention. This isn't to say that you seek, or want, a life completely outside of it. Simply that your curiosity and zest for life is such that the idea of doing something outside the proverbial norm is something you're interested in.

You are curiouser and curiouser. Put another way, yours is the examined life.

You aspire to decency and understand how hard that can sometimes be.

You find that people -young and old, rich and poor, and normal and abnormal- take a shine to you and are apt to reveal parts of themselves because they trust your soul and know that you're generally interested in what they have to say and share.
