My self-summary
Hello visitor!

I'm Alex, an engineering grad student working on materials design for solar cells. I love what I do and pour a ton of time into it (and will talk endlessly on it if you give me the chance) but I have always considered my friends, family, and personal life my top priorities.

I'm extremely genuine, outgoing and friendly and have a tendency to get into deep personal conversations with new people quickly rather than make small talk. When I go out with friends I'm a gregarious storyteller and like to command a room, but I'm also very independent and like to spend a good deal of time alone with my thoughts. And once I get to know you, I'm fiercely loyal.

As for what I'm looking for - someone with a fantastic sense of humor, who understands the finer points of relaxing in front of the TV but who also is down for a good adventure, and who only takes the really important things in life seriously.
What I’m doing with my life
Getting a PhD making solar cells, also finding excuses to go to bars with friends on weekdays
I’m really good at
Figuring out where I've seen minor actors from random TV shows without going to IMDB. Also figuring out where someone is coming from, even if I don't agree with them.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a high-functioning space case. Also that I like to joke around and laugh a lot.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Dune, Cat's Cradle, The Left Hand of Darkness, The Three Body Problem, Siddhartha, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Once and Future King, Chaos, Game of Thrones, Phantom Tollbooth (it never gets old!)

Movies: Darjeeling Limited, The Royal Tenenbaums... really anything by Wes Anderson, Office Space, Enter the Dragon, This is Spinal Tap, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Silence of the Lambs, and tons more. I like movies a lot.

Shows: Archer, Arrested Development, Workaholics, The League, South Park, Game of Thrones, Party Down, Parks and Rec, Breaking Bad, also tons more. I like TV a lot too.

Music: Electronic, indie, and metal (throwback to my high school days)

Food: Everything, especially meat. Kale sucks though. No offense to the kale farmers. And for the most part the spicier / more intensely flavored the better.
Six things I could never do without
Computer and internet. I'll order the rest on Amazon.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
A lot of really random things. Are there intergalactic civilizations out there, what I'll be doing in 10 years, why I like the things I like, why I don't like the things I don't, and the best places to go in a zombie apocalypse. Definitely supermarkets, though I'm open to debate on this.
On a typical Friday night I am
Drinking somewhere with friends, either in a house or at a bar. Or at a show, though less often than I'd like... Or hermiting up at home, making some dinner and enjoying it with a movie and a few bowls.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When I was 5 I was watching the Lion King, and when Scar died I started crying. When my parents asked me why I was sad I said "If you only cry when the good guy dies you only have half a heart!" Yes I was fucking precious.
You should message me if
You're an introvert at heart who likes going out and raging it up when the mood strikes you.
