My self-summary
Hi, my name's Alex and I'm originally from Pennsylvania. I like to think I'm pretty chill and low-maintenance. I love this city (as all of us do, in a Stockholm Syndrome-esque way) and I especially love taking advantage of all the great things it has to offer, especially the museums, zoos, and restaurants.

I like to go out, have a couple of drinks, dance (I have terrible moves but I make up for them with enthusiasm,) and have a great time. However, I generally fall on the introverted end of the spectrum and I really value a quiet night in with friends, watching terrible movies and bitching about President Trump. I'm a total pop culture junkie and excel at water cooler talks with co-workers about the movies we've seen over the weekend. I love roller coasters. And I am a HUGE animal lover and have been known to make involuntary, embarrassing noises at cute dogs I pass on the street.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as an admin at a non-profit consulting company. In my free time, I'm learning Italian on Duolingo, endlessly reading (Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi at the moment,) exploring my neighborhood in Astoria, and binge-watching TV shows (currently working on The Great British Bake Off.)
I’m really good at
Knowing pointless trivia. Finding silly Youtube videos involving animals. Forcing my friends to watch said silly YouTube videos involving animals. Becoming enraged by our current political climate. Being totally oblivious to flirtation.
The first things people usually notice about me
It's weird, but I get "Oh, you really remind me of my cousin/friend/sister!" a lot upon first meeting someone. So, the first thing you'll probably notice about me is that I remind you of your cousin/friend/sister. Also, that I'm short.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies: Anchorman, Moulin Rouge, Black Swan, Birdman, Shaun of the Dead, Die Hard, No Country For Old Men, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Kill Bill Vols. 1 and 2, The Cabin in the Woods, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, In Bruges (this list could seriously go on and on...)

Books: The Harry Potter series, House of Leaves, A Clockwork Orange, Brave New World, Lolita, Memoirs of a Geisha, Interview With the Vampire, IT, A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Shining (most Stephen King, really)

Music: A little bit of everything, with a preference for classic rock, alt-rock, electronic, and upbeat pop... anything I can dance to, really

TV: Breaking Bad, Black Mirror, Game of Thrones, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Sherlock, Twin Peaks, Arrested Development, Parks and Recreation, The IT Crowd, Always Sunny

Food: I'll eat pretty much anything except Chinese take-out (not sure why I dislike it so strongly, but I found a diary entry from when I was eight that reads "I tried some Chinese food today but I did'n like it," so it seems to be an instinctual hatred. I also swear I'm better at spelling now.) But I particularly love sushi and Italian food
Six things I could never do without
My friends and family. (A given, but... whatever.)
Delicious food.
My laptop.
My Kindle.
New York City.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Being positive and trying to appreciate every second of my nearly-statistically-impossible, way-too-brief existence. Feminism, misogyny, homophobia, and racism. Theorizing about what's going to happen on the next season of Game of Thrones.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes out at a bar with friends, sometimes staying in catching up on my Netflix queue.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a terrible cook. I have mastered cooking pasta and browning ground beef and that's about it. Bonus points for someone who can teach me how to make delicious, easy foods!
You should message me if
I'm not looking to create unreasonably narrow criteria because everyone has their own unique, potentially attractive qualities and I love to be surprised! But, in general, I'm looking for somebody who agrees that life is better when you share it with someone--somebody with a kind heart who has a great sense of humor and is definitely looking for something committed/potentially long-term.
