My self-summary
I'm a kind, happy, loyal, open-minded, self-reliant guy who truly appreciates friendships and relationships and the affection, intimacy, understanding and acceptance that goes along with them. I try to live a life of kindness and compassion, doing my best not to cause harm, and stepping up when I can be helpful...leaving as light a footprint as possible on this beautiful planet. I appreciate open, honest, caring communication and revel in thoughtful, intimate conversation. I actively focus on a healthy lifestyle (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) and daily engage in activities that support and encourage that, including eating healthy, exercise/working out, time outdoors in nature (hiking, biking, inline skating, rafting....), sharing with dear friends, a little solitude, a little meditation, some library time, an abundance of gratitude and an ever-present sense of humor. Who'd have thought that this part of life, the "experienced" part, with wisdom and compassion and some resources, would likely be the sweetest part, and maybe deliriously so....
About drugs and "Sometimes" over on the right...I take no prescription pharmaceuticals, but love my morning coffee, my dark chocolate, an evening glass of red wine and an occasional toke.... for the exquisite tastes, the smiles, the delightful endorphins and the fortunate health benefits.
Finally, I am egalitarian and a staunch feminist...and have no acceptance or tolerance of racism, sexism or elitism. Life is too short and too dear....
What I’m doing with my life
I'm past having to generate income, so my time is my own, and gets spent being with friends, being outside, taking good care of my health, volunteering, reading, writing, being joyful, generous, thoughtful, humorous and always thankful. It would be lovely to share that with a like spirited, open-hearted, warm and accepting partner.
I’m really good at
Listening, learning, thoughtful conversation, passion and compassion, empathy, contentment, simplicity, touching, laughing, living in the moment and hopefully, self-awareness.
I'm not too bad at working with my hands, designing and creating living spaces, building and fixing stuff, cooking healthy, massage, being resourceful, living a deliberate and creative lifestyle, and being helpful.
The first things people usually notice about me
I think maybe my eyes and my smile, and then an open, friendly, attentive, curious and accepting attitude.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Thoreau's Walden, Four Agreements (and anything else by Don Miguel Ruiz), anything by Pema Chodren, The Dali Lama or Sharon Salzberg (Lovingkindness), All About Love by Bell Hooks, Quiet by Susan Cain, Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, anything by Barry Lopez, the list goes on. As for fiction, Barbara Kingsolver, Patrick O'Brian, James Baldwin, and a long lovely list of others....
Movies: I delight in good films and excellent story-telling, particularly character-driven story lines about competence, courage and good values triumphing over adversity (Out of Africa, Good Will Hunting, The Contender, Working Girl, Dances With Wolves, Philadelphia, Searching for Sugar Man, and more recently Spotlight, The Martian, Captain Fantastic, Moonlight, Elle, Eagle Huntress...so many lovely stories to be told).
TV: I don't find much quality in commercial television, but there are incredible, moving and visually stunning documentaries currently available (PBS), opening our eyes to ourselves and our planet...and telling some heroic, human stories.
Music: What a lovely aspect of life. I like all kinds, but lean towards melodic rock, reggae, dance music and distinctly beautiful voices: right now...Sam Smith, David Gray, Sade, Sarah McLachlan, Alpha Blondy...and lovely older stuff... Cat Stevens, George Harrison, Bob Marley, Al Green, Peter Tosh, Annie Lennox, Billy Ocean....
Food: Anything healthy and tasty. I lean towards Asian and vegetarian, but appreciate almost anything a friend takes the time and thoughtfulness to prepare.
Six things I could never do without
1. dear friends: the loveliest part of my simple, joyful life.
2. intimacy: conversational, emotional, intellectual and physical.
3. nature: in all its grandeur, power, wonder and restorative beauty.
4. sensuality: things that look, smell, sound, taste and feel exquisite.
5. curiosity: to find out what all this is all about...and to ask what it all feels like to you.
6. unstructured free time: to pursue and delight in 1 thru 5 as much as I can stand....
(I didn't include my sense of humor...because I'll never be with out that...no matter what.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to be even more sweet, kind, thoughtful, understanding, accepting, generous, open, funny, loving....and at peace.
On a typical Friday night I am
Likely cooking dinner, getting ready to read or watch a good story, or making dinner for a friend to share stories over. And then there are moon rises, summer evening strolls, some music, a glass of Cabernet, intimate conversation, laughing, some dancing, some stargazing, some snuggling....
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Just about anything. While I appreciate confidences, I hold no secrets and cherish sharing the most private and intimate thoughts and feelings with those who won't judge and are curious. I think it's what we're here for; to live and to love...and to share what this life, this experience feels like to us and to each other.
You should message me if
You're excited about having a friend/partner who accepts and appreciates you for who you are, and who is kind, honest, loyal, attentive, and delights in your company. You're compassionate, open-hearted and open-minded, you appreciate a thoughtful and intentional lifestyle, and you're happy, healthy, communicative, fun to be with, love to laugh and enjoy a warm snuggle. Plus, you're not put off by someone who is joyful, content, funny, expressive and truly grateful.
Oh, and let's not forget a sense of humor and a sense of wonder, which are both very attractive and fundamental necessities of life...along with being great fun.
