My self-summary
I'm an American academic(y) architect type who has just landed in Chicago after a long stint in Berlin and then bouncing around the world a lot over the last few years (New York City, Netherlands, Hong Kong, other less glamorous places in the US, Morocco, ect.) before that. I'm here to start a PhD so I'm around but I'm planning to be in and out of town and back to Europe a lot. Also I have a serious someone else in Germany (who is fine with us seeing other people while we are separated) so I can't promise super commitment, but it would be great to find friend to cook for and give back rubs to... or I guess even a hot exciting lover for a torrid affair, kinky intellectual fling or some radical new adventure I have yet to imagine.
What I’m doing with my life
Right now I seem to be drifting in and out of being a "real" professor and various sorts of vague "researcher" or visiting fellow or other type of itinerant intellectual positions. I also design things and make things and I'm trying to write a book... so, ya, if you're looking for a visiting fellow let me know.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
I stutter; either I'm some kind of pervert, maybe an architect... or else it's just the glasses; sometimes it's the cool sneakers, other times it's the suit; That I'm friendly but apparently kind of "relentless".
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Anything pretentious but with a special affection for old school modernist forms, Cassavetes, Fassbinder, Godard, old-school punk rock, old spooky dub, bluegrass, psychedelic freak-folk.

For food, I like meaty, hearty stuff. Barbecue, German food, pho, ramen with pork and thick broth, smoked fish, stinky cheese. Whatever I'm cooking right now and whatever you cook.
Six things I could never do without
I suspect that one doesn't know this until you lose them, no?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot more time thinking about sex and "the city" than I do about "Sex and the City".

Also food and art and wondering what my far-flung friends are up to.
On a typical Friday night I am
I haven't had a typical Friday night in a long time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't know. What's the most private thing you really want to hear about? Isn't most of that stuff tedious?

How's this, I'll confess to being totally intimidated by two things in OkCupid profiles: active, healthy, sportiness and talk about monogamy and commitment and romantic stuff. I totally admire and desire and aspire to both of those things but I feel like I'm not good at them (perhaps irrationally). If you give me a break on those fronts, or better yet show me how it's done, I promise I'll be a quick study and teach you a few tricks in return.
You should message me if
you're funny and smart and curious and you don't mind me using offers of sex to entice you to come home with me so I can cook you an elaborate dinner.
