My self-summary
A good friend of mine asked me last week what three qualities I am looking for in a woman. It was serious question, so after some thought I responded:

-- A curious mind. I don't need to marry a doctor, but the girl I am going to fall in love with will be able to discuss issues of the day or books she has read. She will want to visit far-off places and discover new things together. She will always want to learn more.
-- A Pretty Face. I have met girls in all shapes and sizes that I have crushed on. Some were thin. Some were not. Some had a great rack. Some had gorgeous green eyes. Blondes, Brunettes, Red Heads. Tall. Short. Fit. Fat. None of that mattered. The one thing they all had in common is a pretty face. No matter the relationship, I will spend the most time looking at a girl's face. It's my must-have.

-- Passion. There are things in my life that I am passionate about - sports, politics, and travel to name three. I'll share my passions with you, but I fully expect you to share your passions with me. Maybe you love horses, or opera, or architecture. Perhaps there is nothing more important to you than human rights in Ethiopia or finding the best kimchi in Korea. Kite surfing, the city of Chicago, quilting, your rottweiler Buster, journalism, fashion, electrical engineering, Justin Beiber. I don't care WHAT your passion is (not true - please don't let it be Beiber), just that you are passionate about something.

That's not asking for too much, right?
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a Foreign Service Officer with the State Department. I just finished my first tour in Belize and I am coming back to DC for a year to learn German. My next post will be in Frankfurt, Germany in mid-2013. It's a fantastic job with great opportunities for travel.
I’m really good at
board games, trivia, grilling steaks, and planning road trips.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told my smile - this is incredibly generic, but I guess I'll go with it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Harry Potter series, Winds of War/War and Remembrance by Herman Wouk, Game of Thrones, anything by Dave Eggars, John Grisham, Tom Clancy or Michael Crichton.

Movies: American History X, Life is Beautiful, Dazed and Confused, The Goonies, Slumdog Millionaire, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, plus many more.

Shows - The Daily Show, Jeopardy, The Amazing Race, Modern Family, Survivor, plus a smattering of shows that I have only recently watched on DVD, such as Lost, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc.

Music - I have broad tastes within the rock/pop genre. Counting Crows, RHCP, Killers, Jack Johnson, Tom Petty, Fun., Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Incubus, some 90s country, a bit of Italian music, and some recent pop music, like Gaga, Katy Perry, and Pitbull.

Food - There is nothing better on this planet than a perfectly cooked medium rare filet mignon.
Six things I could never do without
My family
My dog, Bailey
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics and World Affairs (hey, it comes with the job)
Sports - particularly Nebraska Football and Cardinals Baseball
Where to travel to next.
On a typical Friday night I am
out at a DC happy hour with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a horrible habit of not closing cabinets and drawers around the house.
You should message me if
you meet the three must-haves above. Tell me something that you are passionate about.
