Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Initially I thought "I am not the culture I consume! I won't be defined by the art I appreciate!" But then I really enjoyed reading some other peoples' lists and had to acknowledge that what I put in my ears and my eyes and my brain and my mouth does have a lot to do with who I'm turning out to be. So maybe it's a little bit relevant.

Barbara Kingsolver, Pema Chodron, Naomi Shihab Nye, John Steinbeck, Zadie Smith, Anne Lamott, Derrick Jensen (though his defense of transphobia is breaking my heart), Leslie Feinberg, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Joanna Macy, Leslie Marmon Silko, Jeffrey Eugenides, Alice Walker, Maggie Anton.

I try with the nonfiction. I really do! But it is sloooow going.

I really love historical fiction and I recently read the first in a series of novels that take place in Scotland in the 1700s. It was well written and fascinating. There were vivid depictions of daily life in the Scottish Highlands, details of medicine and use of native plants, inquiry into the role of women in the 18th century vs. the 20th, and some really hot sex. I was pretty hooked and went to Powell's to find the second book in the series (the one at the library was taking forever on hold). I'd been told it was a popular series, but couldn't find it anywhere. Finally did a search in their database and learned it was shelved in the Romance section. Wait, no. Not just Romance. Paranormal Romance. A small identity crisis ensued. I bought the book anyway.

Music - I'm sticking to things I've actually listened to in the last few months:
Lyle Lovett, David Bromberg, The Meters, Holly Near, Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg, Tom Waits, Nina Simone, Darol Anger, Norman Blake, Blue Cranes, Peter Mulvey, Gregory Alan Isakov, Pancake Breakfast, Emily Wells, Grateful Dead, Indigo Girls, Bruce Springsteen, Cat Stevens, Miriam Makeba, Nick Drake, Paul Curreri, Van Morrison, The Two Man Gentleman Band, JD Souther, Chet Baker, and holy shit you gotta listen to this new Karl Blau record!!!
You should message me if
You want to connect with and enjoy someone who is in a stable, happy, open relationship.

You want to get a drink and talk and flirt hard.

You're curious to see if we have the kind of chemistry that ignites an electrical sexual relationship.

You're not afraid to communicate openly and vulnerably (ok, maybe you're afraid, but you do it anyway)!
