My self-summary
Single, straight♂, aware, would pass for smart, well-traveled, curious, healthy, borderline fit, grateful; likes both serious talk and good laughs. Retired portfolio manager with a continuing interest in financial markets and investments. Winding down my participation but not my interest in some riskier pursuits: private aviation✈, motorcycling🏍, scuba diving.
What I’m doing with my life
Connecting with upbeat convivial people with whom I can share my interest in aviation, astronomy, biking, birdwatching, coffee☕, conservation, cooking, ethnic cuisines, economics, financial markets, investments, hiking, northern Ontario. oceans, pianos🎹, reading, red wines, technology, travel.
I’m really good at
pasta with pesto from scratch, risotto, laundry, and grammar.

... and fixing stuff. I am competent with tools and like solving small electrical, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping and automotive problems. My favorite projects are those to which I can apply my own experience, make it look easy and complete successfully in 20 minutes. I'm happy to share what I know; self-reliance is empowering, making for greater independence.
The first things people usually notice about me
well, it used to be that no one told until much later, if at all. But you're still with me; you could give me your take on my virtual presence here right now. As for face-to-face ...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Let's wait; why don't I bore you with all this tedious stuff later?
Six things I could never do without
well, the best things in life are not things, but here are a few thing things I'd prefer not to have to do without:

semicolons ;
northern Ontario
duct tape
Wall Street Journal
shiraz ... well, ok, syrah... and zinfandel

... who's counting?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
unintended consequences;

usernames ending in thecat or inabox;

whether I should stop counting fries with ketchup as two servings of vegetables...then I can ponder how I should think about carrot cake;

whether we'll decide to develop a cover story or be up-front with our friends and admit we met right here.
On a typical Friday night I am
at home communing with my inner foodie but probably cutting a corner or two cooking something; I'd prefer it be with an already-opened bottle of one of those reds mentioned above and a participating audience of one.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
.... that would be the thing right after the least private thing I'm not willing to admit. I don't want to go off on a rant about this essay topic right here but I will share it with you if you choose.

Anyway, for me, let's see, two things:

thing one ... this site's app runs on both my phone and tablet and, between them, they keep me signed in, making it appear that I am constantly scouring the site and very much need to get a life, a conclusion that may have more than a shred of truth to it, but not for this reason.

thing two ... I've skinned off a few pounds and I'm told I look better in my clothes; now I'm stepping up my exercise regime so I'll look better naked.
You should message me if
you relate well to most of the following adjectives: attractive, adventurous, assertive, athletic, confident, conservative, curious, earthy, enterprising, enthusiastic, forthright, independent, intelligent, literate, numerate, orgasmic, reliable, resourceful, secure, studious, successful, technical, trustworthy ... and if there's a hook somewhere in here for you (c'mon ... you're still with me all the way down here) ... please write a full paragraph or, better yet, two and let me know what it is and why.
