My self-summary
I am interested in reading, writing, films, museums, architecture, psychology, and all forms of art. I can be both creative and analytical; qualities that have helped me in my research, my writing and my designs. I see things from different angles; I search for the undiscovered facets of life, I prefer places out of the beaten path, small towns, unspoiled nature, the outskirts of Santa Barbara and its wineries, Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula, the region north of San Francisco; Point Reyes, Napa Valley in the spring or fall.

I am Caring, Creative, and Passionate
What I’m doing with my life
I am writing about art and film. In 1995 I formed a group that still meets, to view and discuss some of the best films ever made—that are works of art. I am writing about what those films have taught me.
I’m really good at
I seek out and encourage the best in others. I love writing, designing unusual gadgets as well as architectural work. I transformed a dozen servant rooms under the roofs of Paris into small studios, and drew plans for the renovation of two homes in Palm Springs. I designed and built a home theater for my film discussion group, and a fully adjustable, ergonomic computer desk I am using to write this.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don’t know if people notice me or what they think if they do.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The short stories of Raymond Carver, The One Thousand and One Nights, Proust’s "Remembrance of Things Past," among many others, and non fiction books on psychology, art, cinema, architecture—anything written by Frank Lloyd Wright. In addition to being a great architect who built on principles, not fads, he was a man of vast erudition, a humanist and a very great artist.

I listen to classical music mostly but I enjoy others occasionally. I am not particular about any kind of food, so long as it lovingly prepared.

Some of my favorite films: "Late Spring" by Yasujiro Ozu, The films of Robert Bresson, especially "The Diary of a Country Priest;" "Black Rain" by Shohei Imamura; "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" by Christian Mungiu; "The Night of Counting the Years" by Shady Abd Al-Salam; "The Cranes Are Flying" by Mikhail Kalatozov; "Passenger" by Andrzej Munk; "Raise the Red Lantern" by Zhang Yimou and many others like them that I consider works of art; mostly foreign. I am fond of Iranian films for their simplicity, poetry and humanity.
Six things I could never do without
Music, writing, art, reading, my computer, my cat.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My project at hand which I’d like to complete soon.
On a typical Friday night I am
Friday is not different than any other day. I am at home working on my writing. I do enjoy seeing friends when the occasion presents itself, any day of the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I feed stray cats against the regulations of my condo, risking the wrath of the board of directors and a fine to match. I meet my feline friends twice a day, everyday.
