My self-summary
I find it hard to summarize myself into neat categories. I was in the military, but I'm liberal and a pacifist. I identify as a nerd and intellectual, but also like to watch some sports and work out. I enjoy engaging in deep conversations, but I'm also silly and am not afraid of unleashing my inner child.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm part of the pioneering group of early 30's finally going back to college after taking the oh-so-very long road to adulthood. Hey, it's all about the journey and finding your passion, or so I like to tell myself.

I also collect hobbies. My newest hobby is baking bread. I'm really getting into it. My sourdough starter is like a pet to me...
I’m really good at
Generally, I would say problem solving and observing the big picture. I have a good memory and love learning new things. I can recall the most random information sometimes.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hmm...I guess that I'm tall. Once we get into a conversation, most people say I'm like a human encyclopedia.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Infinite Jest, Hyperion, As I Lay Dying, Blood Meridian, Brave New World, Neuromancer, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Also lots of non-fiction by Carl Sagan, Oliver Sacks, Daniel Dennett, Michael Pollan, Steven Pinker, Mary Roach, Michael Lewis, etc.

Movies: Recently I've really liked The Martian, Ex Machina, The Big Short, The Lobster, Jiro Dreams of Sushi. In general I enjoy stuff by Kubrick, Tarantino, Lynch, etc.

Food: I love to cook and am not afraid to take on most any recipe. I guess my favorites are Indian, Thai, Mediterranean, and Japanese. And anything bread related.

Music: I move through different phases, which together cover a lot of different genres. Some bands I've been listening to recently: Animal Collective, Beach House, Nick Cave, St. Vincent, Houses, Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver, Blood Orange, Boards of Canada, The National, Sufjan Stevens.
The six things I could never do without
Music
Books
Podcasts (makes things like cleaning and driving much more interesting)
A Kitchen
Beer
Curiosity
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How pretty much everything works, on many different levels.

The human mind and all its crazy geniuses and flaws.

How I can make my own meaning in life; in a way that actually feels meaningful.

How twelve musical notes and a relatively limited amount of rhythms and song structures can make up such an amazing variety of music.
On a typical Friday night I am
Ideally, going to see a random band at one of my favorite neighborhood spots and further confirming the awesomeness of live music. Realistically, often times cooking some dinner and browsing Netflix.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My sense of humor can be very inappropriate and dark, which can get me into awkward situations.
You should message me if
You're awesome and you think I'm awesome and if our combined awesomness would make heads explode.
