My self-summary
I'm a free spirit who is often described as grounded, independent and adventurous.

I can be a social butterfly, but I have strong introvert tendencies; I do much better 1-1 or in small groups than large parties.

I enjoy intellectual conversations, as well as the sweetness of simply being present with someone. About five years ago, through meditation and tantric yoga, I began to experience the power and joy of mindfulness and simple presence; I'd love to connect with someone who is also interested in slowing down and living more mindfully.

With a partner, I enjoy planning travel & adventures, cooking, doing home projects, going on hikes, playing games, and going to music and cultural events.

My passions include:
meditation and spirituality / dance, esp. Cuban Salsa / yoga / nature / social justice / holistic health / somatic therapy / energy work / tantric yoga / education / travel / anything involving water / crafts & DIY projects / hugs and touch
What I’m doing with my life
I study mindfulness based somatic therapy (Hakomi Method) and am always open to new avenues of personal growth and development. Also, nature. Nature reminds me of the simplicity of life, and I look forward to soon living in a home that has a garden and is surrounded by trees.

My background is in Social Work, and I'll always hold social justice values close to my heart. Now I'm fortunate to work as a school-based therapist, which gives me the autonomy I love and lots of vacation time for travel or nesting at home.

I work only four days a week and have set up my life so that work is a meaningful part of my week, not the main event.

I was voted Most Prolific Reader in the 4th grade, and it's still one of my favorite activities. Currently reading a book about the history of Autism (work-related) and a few novels.

I'm a Cuban Salsa dancer, and really enjoy Afro-Brazilian and other kinds of dance too. A huge yes to dance, yoga, movement and being in our bodies!

One time I started a cookie business when I lived in Colombia. My friend and I made the PERFECT, taste-tested chocolate chip cookies and sold them in parks where people hung out drinking and smoking weed. We called it Las Munchies (with a Spanish pronunciation), introducing a new word to the Spanglish lexicon.
I’m really good at
Seeing the big picture
Trying new things
Finding beauty and humor in difficult situations
Being silly
Cuban Salsa dancing
The first things people usually notice about me
My smile and friendly and curious personality
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I've been mostly vegetarian lately. Eating animals raised and slaughtered in inhumane conditions in factories that have a high carbon footprint doesn't align with my values. I do however listen to my body and take in some animal protein, ideally organic and farm raised, when I need it.

Music: I have eclectic tastes, from Hip hop like Calle 13 and Janelle Monae to Kirtan to Indie like Arcade Fire to Salsa/Latin to old school like Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder

Movies: Love movies, both at the theatre and at home. Anything by Pedro Almodovar, When Harry met Sally, Harold and Maude, The NeverEnding Story, Funny Face, Inside Out, Citizen Four.

Podcasts/radio: This American Life, The Moth, Democracy Now, and lots of others

Books/Authors: Junot Diaz, Toni Morrison, Jumpha Lahira, engaging non-fiction, Dave Eggers, anything by Atul Gawande, various personal growth/neurobiology/somatic books
The six things I could never do without
"The cure for anything is salt water- sweat, tears or the sea."
-Isak Dineson
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether or not it's worth it to stay out late salsa dancing. It usually is : )
On a typical Friday night I am
Maybe on an epic date with you, that involves a sunset hike (hopefully)...
