My self-summary
Note: I need to update this, especially since moving cross-country and getting married. Also need to clean up how pretentious some of this sounds. Jeez, Mark.

I will do my best to acquit myself here but I bet my best efforts to digitize myself will come up short without some sort of experimental gun. Until the day I can be downloaded and printed in your home, this will serve.

Hi, my name is Mark. I love my name for his brevity and force and history. I have an inordinate affection for science, logic and language, and therefore puns. Sorry in advance for that. I am a super-massive nerd. I've played paper and pencil roleplaying games since middle school, video games longer than that, and hoarding fantasy and science fiction novels and comics as long as I can remember.

I am an arguer but not a worrier. I love the thrust and parry of debate for its own sake, of reason married to charisma brought to bear on inconsequential and fun things, the geekier the better. I love oral storytelling but strive against my insecurities to make creative things that are more permanent. I have a bad habit of approaching stuff in life experimentally. I have a list of places to travel to and eat. It is a list of restaurants, really.

I love to be around people but I am truly introverted. So social stuff is tiring, but it's a a good, satisfied tired. It always feels worth it, especially since I balance myself out by decompressing with books, music and long, contemplative walks.

I am mostly Irish and Polish, chased with a slurry of other lovely ethnicities. My ancestors were so randy that I wouldn't pass the "one-drop" rule.

I am accepting, honest, passionate for the people in my life, dedicated and more silly than I deserve. I am kind and adventurous and a born nerd.

I am bookish, subversive, and mighty.

I am seeing someone superbly lovely, so I am not looking for anything here beyond a conversation partner.
What I’m doing with my life
I am trying to be student of life, but life is on hold while I am a student of college. I was, for a time, also a pharmacy tech but that gave way for my illustrious research assistantship. It doesn't leave me much time so here I'm looking for someone interesting with whom to talk.

Otherwise time is left I read and daydream and attempt to rekindle the piano and my fallow drawing skills.
I’m really good at
talking and listening, dissecting the elements of whatever though discussion. I am good at making plans that ring awesomely, though whether I finish them is another matter. I can cook, sing, play, speak, and fight with elegance, ingenuity, and power.

While I don't like most sweets, I live for making pies.

When I read something great I can enter a partial-stasis mode in which I need neither food, water or movement until I am done. It is pretty awesome.

I am totally awesome in a crisis, cool-headed and selfless to a fault as the situation demands.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes have lightened into pinwheels of green and brown in recent years but still look good and black and intimidating in the right light.

What they mention first, however, is invariably my watch. LEGO.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I will read anything but I have a bad habit of not finishing nonfiction, nonscientific books. Despite that I will read virtually anything. Lately I favor rereading Terry Pratchett and Robert Howard's Conan stories. Anything smart and pulpy will get my tumblers falling. I am a bibliophile and I choke the shelves of everyplace I have ever stayed.

Movies: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, The Iron Giant, Dead Alive, M, but I am willing to watch anything. Seriously. I have a running contest with a friend to see who can sit through the most SciFi Originals; we both lose.

Music: I have honestly eclectic tastes, but lately I gravitate most toward Frightened Rabbit, Metric, Yoko Kanno, and the SXSW headliners of years past.

Ah food. I love meat and fat first and foremost. I ruined my mother's vegetarianism from the womb. Otherwise I have an adventurous palate and will give anything a few noshes before I form an opinion of it.
Six things I could never do without
My voice,
my corrective lenses,
my tongue,
my teeth,
my hands,
and music.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Dragons. The future. Ways to bridge the gap between the cooler science fiction futures or pasts and where we are now. The human body.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends or staying in and reading for work or out enjoying the tang in the night air while humming and whistling snatches of songs to myself.

If I am really lucky it is raining. I love the rain.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My photo is terribly out of date, but I'm working on building a time machine.
You should message me if
you are open-minded and fun and like trading words and games with someone smart, laid-back, and eccentric with dexterity to spare. I have a hoard of facts and opinions and I love new ones to add to my store. Especially if you have paper-an-pencil ideas I can poach.
