My self-summary
In an effort to stand by my firm belief in honesty, here's a list:

Married just out of high school. 2 kids followed then a divorce about 4 years ago. That was civil, but I'm not buddy buddy with her. I can provide more details is requested.
Family is all local and I'm a native Grand Rapidian.
Worked at same company for 20 years.
Not interested in starting a new family, but also not opposed to the right person who also has kids.
Not a church goer/believer and not looking to be converted, but I have friends who do go and we get along fine (i.e. I'm not a militant atheist or anything like that).
1 dog & 1 cat. They have agreed to a ceasefire for the time being, though this was after the cat lost much territory to the dog.
I run, bike (road/mountain), enjoy racquetball, used to play softball and wouldn't mind finding a team to keep my evenings busy, have done a plethora of mud runs and adventure races, have skydived and backpacked the grand canyon (twice, I highly recommend a trip out there).
I've been to Europe and would love to go back, as well as hit somewhere tropical someday.
What I’m doing with my life
Working 9-5ish.
Going back to school.
Working on projects at my house.
Training mornings for life's next race, both literal and metaphorical.
Raising one kid (high school) and seeing how well I raised another (college)
Trying to win at the internets (losing battle).
I’m really good at
Far too many other things to list.
The first things people usually notice about me
That depends on the person and the situation they see me in, I guess. It's far too subjective a question for a single answer in most cases.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Like sci-fi, fantasy and fiction in general for my reading.
TV - GoT, Orphan Black, Supernatural, Cosmos, Louie, Big Bang Theory, House of Cards, House, Dexter.
Movies - pretty much anything if it looks intersting and might surprise me (limited precognition as to what is going to happen or be said next, it's kind of scary).
I like most music, but can do without country, heavy metal and rap. My kids take over the radio via Apply products in the car, so I'm usual victim to their whims, but that's usually OK (they seems like the same types as me from the 70's to now).
Six things I could never do without
If I'm falling from a plane - a parachute.
If I'm in a stuck bathysphere - scuba gear, an instruction manual for same and a decompression chamber waiting up top.
Faced by a lion - chair and whip.
Being chased by zombies - someone slower than me :)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the future might hold, but not in an obsessive way. I'm just curious to see what will happen next. It's been an interesting ride so far.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my friends, relaxing after a hard week of making the world a better place.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Nice try, website, but I haven't been lulled into a false sense of security by your innocuous prior questions.
You should message me if
You found my humor or attempts at it endearing.
Someone who is active and might want a training partner on occasion (I'm sure most people have people they train with already, but it's nice to meet new people).
The two of us
