My self-summary
I grow out a beard from November through April, and shave it off for the summer.

I love to learn new things. I hold myself to a high standard, and I am strongly self-motivated. I like to take something good and turn it into something amazing.

I like to play disc (frisbee) golf. It's a fun way to go out and spend an afternoon. I also like taking bike trips along the Leon Creek greenway trail.

My Myers-Briggs personality type is INTJ. This wikipedia article describes me very well:

I like parentheses.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a software developer. I am happy with my job, because it lets me use my logical side as well as my creative side to solve challenging technical problems.

I host a regular board game night at my house. My current favorite game is Power Grid.
I’m really good at
I consider myself a musical person. I enjoy playing the cello and singing barbershop (I'm a bass).

I'm a good negotiator. (The secret is to do your research ahead of time.)
The first things people usually notice about me
My height (no contest).

It's kind of funny how many complete strangers will walk up to me and ask if they can take a picture with me. I always oblige, of course, because I'm nice like that, but there are always a few people who try to take my picture surreptitiously and don't do a good job hiding their intentions. I sometimes wonder how many random photo albums I'm in.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am a big fan of short stories (all genres). Some books I've read recently: Nate Silver's The Signal and the Noise, Spam Nation by Brian Krebs, How We Got To Now by Steven Johnson, and The Early Work of Philip K. Dick, Volume 1.

Netflix would say that I'm a fan of witty comedies and cerebral thrillers. I really like movies with time-travel. Primer is a great example in this category.

I'm not a fan of most live shows because I feel they are overproduced. I do like live music at a hole-in-the-wall during a meal. I would enjoy going to see an orchestra concert or an opera, although I'm not really a theater person.

On the radio, I listen to NPR the most, followed by classical and then country music. My favorite NPR shows are the Freakonomics podcast, This American Life, and Car Talk.

My favorite food is barbeque. I received a drum smoker as a gift, and I use it every few weeks now. The process can take up to 10-12 hours, so it's very rewarding to enjoy the finished product. My favorite meats are brisket and pork ribs.
Six things I could never do without
Puns, internet radio, table tennis, frisbee golf, college sports, and good debates.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to improve the world.

How to respond when someone says "Man you're tall." My current favorite response is "Thanks, I work out."
On a typical Friday night I am
Watching a movie or playing games with friends.
You should message me if like spreadsheets. want to message me (is that sufficiently tautological?). know what "tautological" means. have a strong opinion about beards (for or against). flip a coin and it comes up heads ( wanted the coin to come up heads and it didn't.
