My self-summary
Found the best woman on OKC. Married her. :-D
What I’m doing with my life
Looking very smug and looking pleased with myself.
I’m really good at
Looking very smug and looking pleased with myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
I look very smug and pleased with myself.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books

The book that haunts me at odd moments is Mind of My Mind, by Octavia Butler. Non SF, probably The Sheltering Sky.
The book that has had the most impact on me is Hardcore Zen, by Brad Warner.
Best comic book: Locke and Key, followed by Phonogram.
Best non-magic comic book: Fun Home, followed by Too Cool To Be Forgotten.
Best comic: Calvin & Hobbes.
The book that I'd like to have the most impact on the world is World on the Edge: How to Prevent Environmental and Economic Collapse by Lester Brown.
The best book is Ficcones, by Jorge Luis Borges.
My favorite book is the one I am reading.

Movies
Triangle, The Innkeepers, Battle Royale, Primer, How To Train Your Dragon, Ruby Sparks, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride. American Splendor.

Shows
Bill Hicks. Louis CK. Oh, you mean TV? Game of Thrones. Mythbusters. The Middleman.

Music
There are some songs that stick in the head, but when people talk about music, they're really asking about cultural subgroups. I started off with Tori Amos / NIN when I was 18, moved to PJ Harvey and Blur, had a Poe moment, then had my mind opened by KEXP and started pulling in everything from The Books to The Delgados to Versus to Dessa. These days I'm probably listening to Songza or rewatching this video obsessively. Or this one. Or this one. Or this one. Or this (NSFW) one.

Noms
Pulled Pork Sandwich from The Fatted Calf. Brie from Gourmet and More. Gibraltar from Blue Bottle. Sun dried tomato pesto from Caffe Delle Stelle. Allagash Curieux. Angel's Envy Bourbon. Millionaires with home made sloe gin. Thick slices of fresh bread just toasted lightly, with melted butter and marmite. I'm thinking hard about the Crunchy Frog from Lers Ros.
The six things I could never do without
Human beings: we're not that complicated. Here's what I think we need:

1) Sunlight. Preferably direct sunlight (see 3).
2) 8 hours of sleep. Still working on this.
3) Walkies. Exercise is good, but just being mobile and outside is better.
4) Social interaction. Not intellectual -- it's a grooming thing.
5) Regular meals. Blood sugar spikes are bad. Breakfast and espresso a must.
6) Projects. Must be doable, sensible, and challenging.

Every so often I remind myself to watch this video of me giving a 5 minute talk on happiness.
On a typical Friday night I am
Me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've been on OKC for 10 years. There's a bunch of old messages (some from people who are now dead) that I like to keep, so I keep this profile.
