My self-summary
My first instinct here is to be sarcastic and absurd, which probably says a lot about my personality. But I'm going to suppress the urge, at least until they start asking questions like "what six woodland creatures you would want with you on a deserted island?"

I am left-handed, INFP.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a researcher at a prestigious but small biomedical institute, but that's just my latest iteration.

In my halcyon days of freelance writing I wrote on such lofty subjects as tanning salons, celebrity gossip, muscle diets and Latin American financial law -- all subjects I have absolutely no business writing about but managed to pull off.

A couple times I've had to fall back on landscape gardening, which in retrospect was some of the most rewarding work I've had. Always looking for an excuse to get my hands dirty.

Also currently amassing a huge bar tab from trivia night. Want in?
I’m really good at
Traveling for work. Traveling in general. Gardening. Stargazing. Camping. Hiking. Sailing. Carving lewd scenes onto bars of hotel soap and re-wrapping them for the next guests.
The first things people usually notice about me
My shimmering golden aura. Well, some people anyway.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I was raised on classic rock and 80's vinyl, and still listen to some 90's alternative rock when no one else is around. Just for a taste: The (ubiquitous) Beatles, Jackson Browne, The Cars, Buffalo Springfield, The Strokes, Ween, The Flaming Lips, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, Billie Holiday, Stevie Ray Vaughan and that catchy song by fun. been to my share of Phish festivals, too.

My favorite directors are Terry Gilliam, Peter Jackson, Alfred Hitchcock, Tim Burton and Woody Allen, (particularly his earlier, funnier stuff). Spend a lot of time DVR-ing obscure old movies on TCM and IFC. Always down for foreign short film festivals.

On TV I watch Always Sunny, 30 Rock, Robot Chicken, Adventure Time, documentaries, and reruns of WKRP in Cincinnati. CBS Sunday Morning if I'm up. Sunday nights I can't miss Le Show and Joe Frank on AM public radio.

I like mystery novels by Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, Sci-Fi by Philip K. Dick and Ray Bradbury, non-fiction by Sebastian Junger and Erik Larson, and fiction by Hermann Hesse, Michael Creighton, John Irving, Tom Robbins, Jack Kerouac and Brooklyn's own Jonathan Lethem- he's great you should check him out.

Some of my favorite poets are Elizabeth Bishop, John Berryman, Edgar Allen Poe, Shel Silverstein H.D. and Theodore Roethke.

A good limerick is always nice:

A marvelous bird is the pelican,
whose mouth can hold more than his belican;
He can hold in his beak
enough food for a week,
and I'm damned if I know how the helican!
The six things I could never do without
Dinosaurs.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where did all those tiny buffalo come from?
On a typical Friday night I am
Dinosaurs.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm Batman.
You should message me if
you want to climb a mountain sometime.
