My self-summary
I'm curious, tolerant, and paying attention.

The screen name: We're all along for the ride. That's all there is: no driver, no destination. If we want something else, it's for us to make up. And I think it would be good to have someone to share the trip and the humor.

or: "Life is a carnival."
What I’m doing with my life
I have a job as a project manager for general contractor. A great deal of the time it feels like just trying to contain the chaos. But when the entropy is a bit less a good analogy is that of a symphony conductor in a very expensive recording studio with the composer and producer making suggestions and demanding changes and the recording engineers not always getting it right. The first violin (et al), of course, knows how best to play the piece, and they all belong to different unions, and it's amazing that it turns out as well as it does. But it does.

It is thrilling to watch my children grow (26 and 28).
I’m really good at
Seeing the humor. Learning. Crossword puzzles. Enjoying the moments of not knowing, waiting while it develops without me trying to control what I can't. Finding out how things work (some may call it nosiness; I call it a desire to know the secrets of the universe). Willingness (although that's also all it takes to be the sideshow geek).

Maybe it's more open mindedness than willingness.
The first things people usually notice about me
Eyes, I guess. How do I know?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'll get here; I'll get here!
Six things I could never do without
Good coffee. The New York Times. Cured pork products. Hot showers. Political discussions. My children.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What are these oversized cortexes (cortices?) for? They're way too large just to outfox the fox (or the tiger). It would almost seem that as much trouble as benefit flows. Where's the survival payoff for religion, philosophy, art, or literature? It's got to be intra rather than inter species interactions. It's been suggested (seriously) that the purpose is to build stronger pair bonds through the ability to amuse our mates. Another obvious advantage would be over neighboring tribes: cleverer warfare. And we've certainly put them to that use. But I think it must be to achieve reproductive success through better sales pitches to members of our own clan (to get stuff to make us more attractive to potential mates).

Or in other words: it's for selling each things we don't need or want (derivatives!). It used to be for carnies offering us a chance at three card monte. Yet still I'm looking for someone smart.

I'm deliberately ignoring the trouble that organized religion gets us into.

And to all you would-be editors: I know that a preposition is a bad thing to end a sentence with.

Is it better to be a sarcastic than a cynic? They're both almost too easy.

Is this all a farce? Was that too trite?

A lot of the time the reel is simply running free and uncensored, with the "for amusement purposes only" label attached.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Almost an oxymoron.

Well, OK. The boy doesn't play well with dress up. I'd have to think about going somewhere where I (absolutely, positively) couldn't wear Levis. But then again, I'm accommodating enough that you could probably take me shopping (codependent he is).
You should message me if
You're happy, smart, and thoughtful. You enjoy good food. You don't want to be too comfortable, or let me be (too comfortable, that is). You're complicated.

I might want to rethink the complicated. Let's say "interesting" instead.
