My self-summary
Still changing. Fluid. Revolutionary.

Attempting to suck less by countering fear and laziness with consciousness and courage. Mixed results.
A quote I try to keep in mind: "One must at all times keep on becoming more of a human being." - Rosa Luxemburg
ISFJ if you care about that sort of thing.
What I’m doing with my life
I moved to Portland from Minneapolis, MN in August 2015 in order to work, research, and study at the Portland VA Medical Center. I do Audiology stuff. I figure everyone will want to be my friend because I’ll be able to hook y’all up with some dope hearing aids (if you're a vet).

Far and away the biggest constant in my life is political and social justice activism. Since 2004, I’ve devoted the majority of my time to trying to organize to fundamentally transform the world for the better. I'm with Dr. King on this one when he says "Anger at injustice is the political expression of love."

I play bass in a rock band, and I play other instruments, compose, and sing for fun. I like to give free music lessons.
I’m really good at
Arguing the case for socialism, learning and playing music, crossword puzzles, Boggle, cooking, vacuuming, doing the dishes, puns, academics, brushing my cat, listening, giving advice (when asked), being logical, being really interested and into stuff while still maintaining a critical eye towards it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m on the tall side of average, and my hair (both head and facial) tends to go through a roughly 10-week-long cyclical life pattern where I let it grow out and then cut it all off, all calculated for maximum hair-cutting laziness and ineptitude. Right now, however, I am letting it grow to see if I can bring back the long Jesus hair of when I was 19-20. Because Jesus has objectively phenomenal hair.

When people first meet me they sometimes think of me as somewhat robotic and expressionless (or, more positively, stoic and content), but this could not be further from the truth. Those who really know me well can read every nuance of my thought patterns off my face. I’m just subtle like that I guess. And I tend to connect best with those that are able to see that there's more there than meets the eye.

I’m quite openly fidgety, but there is a definite rhythm to my madness. Sometimes I like to imagine I’m just tapping into some universal cosmic pulse. But then I remember that I don’t subscribe to anything nearly so New Age-y - it's the ADD.

Six things I could never do without
→ my bff: We have been there for each other through a lot, and will doubtless go through a lot more. Plus, without her, who would viciously insult me at every turn?

BitTorrent: Allowing the internet-dwelling masses to live well beyond their economic means since 2001.

→ Amphetamines. Nuff said.

→ Showers: Everything in life has several awesomeness points subtracted from it when I am caked in dried sweat. And awesomeness points are very important to me.

Music: I wanted to make this more specific and clever, but I can't hide the fact that I love everything about music. Making it, listening to it, trying to understand it, feeling the beat, moving to it, getting it stuck in my head... what a unique and irreplaceable space it fills in existence. It's also probably the only activity in the world where it's both viscerally fun/exciting while doing it *and* afterwards I feel like it was a super productive use of my time that I can totally stand behind.

Science: In the broadest possible sense. I am big on trying to understand (and, ultimately, change for the better) the world around me, and science equips humanity with the tools to start doing this in a serious way. The endlessly curious struggle to learn about every aspect of existence is one of the key things that make life worth living.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Mindfulness, how to be a better human being, and what needs to be done to ensure the success of a revolutionary movement.

Also crossword puzzle answers. And song lyrics.
On a typical Friday night I am
Chairing a meeting or at a show or watching stuff at home or playing video games or playing music or writing an article or preparing a talk or reading or discussing with friends over beers or listening to some tunes or sleeping.

As a general rule, I'd say I'm more likely to be doing something chill and laid back than intensely adventurous, but on the other hand I tend to feed off others' energy, so it all depends on who I'm hanging with.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have baggage. Maybe no more than anyone else, but I'll just be honest that it's there and for a relationship (of any kind) to work it requires understanding and patience.
You should message me if
You are looking for some good old quality, honest human interaction (with the intent of meeting in person - not looking for a pen pal).

Or if you wanna play music/games, or do crosswords together.
