My self-summary
My name is Brandon Valente but "Valente" wasn't always my middle name. I wasn't given a middle name at birth because my mother thought she was having daughters; however, she had me and my fraternal twin. She didn't have any boy names picked out so my granny named us. I gave myself the middle name Valente since granny didn't come up with a middle name either.

I work in a rehab facility for people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury, which has almost nothing to do with my major other than I can utilize my communication skills.

I double majored in news-editorial journalism and English (creative writing) at SIU. I'm amused easily by random things be they shiny or have an interesting sound. Other than that I don't know what to say here. I suppose I could tell you I write screenplays, short stories and poetry. I loathe losing fitness. I love food. I'm a decent cook but I am by no means a chef.

I'm kind of cynical but that's only because I was in journalism and you never take just one truth to be the 'end all' answer. I don't have a ton of faith in people's capacity to tell the truth or even be honest but I expect the best from people. I do absorb every detail behind their words and body language. I've learned that many people say what they think you want to hear instead of giving you their actual perception or thoughts on a matter. However, I always take chances on people.

On the flip side I LOVE cartoons and movies. I miss shows from the 90's and early 2000's such as "Hey, Arnold", "Bobby's World", "Recess", "Are You Afraid of the Dark" and "Mighty Max".

Some things I'd like to accomplish before I get too busy to do them before I retire from whatever job I'm doing are: bungy jumping, sky diving, visit the Mall of America, visit Ethiopia and Nigeria, learn to speak fluently in Spanish, tour through Central and South America, watch the Northern Lights, throw rocks at the Moon, paint the stars and drink Kool-Aid on the Great Wall of China ... with sake in it :).

Carpe diem
What I’m doing with my life
Working with my rehab patients consumes a lot of my time. So much so it's difficult to find time to write stories. I'm also trying to find fun things to do in the Chicago area. I've been away for the better part of 10 years, everything looks new and different.
I’m really good at
Problem solving, de-escalating tempers, story ideas, cooking, writing, counseling and making people feel at ease.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know why but people always ask if I'm African or Caribbean. I'm not even though I somewhat look the part and wish I spoke three languages like most of them. When I inquire about their question they say it's because I don't have an urban intonation in my speech and usually speak properly. So there's that and usually I keep to myself most times but I have sporadic bursts of eccentric offbeat antics.

Sometimes I'm "weird", which people oddly associate with good for whatever reason. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Aside from my hair, my smile, which is stupidly huge like that freaking cat from Alice in Wonderland, garners immediate attention on first impression.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Cheesecake, rock and r&b, pulp fiction and Aladdin, anything James Patterson. I love the Rachel Maddow Show too.
Six things I could never do without
My phone, family, food, a space of my own, internet,... I don't have a sixth one as of yet. I'm hoping to find her. Was that cheezy enough? ;)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
A future career in copywriting, new story ideas, the news, three-year and five-year plan laid out for myself, why to people park their cart in the middle of a tiny aisle then take up the rest of it standing there.
On a typical Friday night I am
I've been catching up on sleep lately. Waking up at 4a.m is no joke. I'll probably lounge around since most of my friends live all around the country now.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think underwear is too uncomfortable.

I almost tripped and fell down an uncovered sewer.

Dog saliva makes me itch.

Give me a second and I can give you a song for any scenario.

"How are you?" is the most annoying question ever.

I'm honestly open.
You should message me if
If you're honest and a big kid at heart.
