What I’m doing with my life
At work, and I love my work, I get to spend my time inventing, leading research teams, and generally indulging my diversophile instincts. This year, I'm working on reinventing education. Last year it was smart personal assistant technology. Before that, next gen email. If you spend time with me, there's a risk I'll talk about all of this.

At home, I am a parent to two amazing kids and caregiver for my wife. For a long while, my focus was entirely on getting a good outcome to her extraordinary medical situation (long story there -- I'm happy to share details in person) and on fighting off homefront collateral damage.

Now that the craziness is settling down, I'm looking outwards again. With my wife's encouragement, that includes dating. It also means more sun, more music, more movement and more connection with great people.

My idea of fun ranges from world travel (the only really good use of money in my opinion) to trading stories, trying new food, talking about ideas, fixing things, making things, climbing simulated rock walls and trying activities that have been on my fun-todo list for way too long.
I’m really good at
handling chaos, Shiatsu-style massage, milking experiences for all they're worth, fantasy baseball, being reliable, leading teams of very smart people who detest authority
The first things people usually notice about me
Hmm. Perhaps that I can usually put 2 and 2 together. Or at least narrow it down.
Six things I could never do without
Old friends
Unwavering adherence to rules
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Happiness -- not mine specifically, but how it works for everyone.

How to transform things that are awful into things that aren't so bad. These days: how to make a game out of recovering from stroke and other neurological damage

Making the time to breathe freely, feel deeply, and connect with people who love to be alive.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home being a fun Dad and a caregiver/companion for my wife. Or else out with friends, recharging batteries.
