My self-summary
I'm from the snowy white north of Michigan, but I've lived in Austin long enough to consider it home.

I'm outdoorsy, I run most days and used to be a regular in a rowing club. I tend to hike/climb mountains/scuba dive and the like on vacation.

I love to travel...delicious street food and natural wonders and a carefree lifestyle. I've done a lot of backpacker travel, mainly because it leads to totally unexpected experiences and tons of cool new friends.

I also love to eat! There are way too many awesome restaurants and I want to try a lot more of them. Food trailers are one of life's great inventions.

Aimlessly browing okc with the phone app has become one of my favorite ways to fill bits of time. Try sorting by % enemy to see who okc thinks you'll hate. They're not wrong...
What I’m doing with my life
I came to Austin to work in the tech industry, but I took a year off to travel in South America and then spent 2 years coordinating a research program in Antarctica. I've had my fill of penguins and seals for now so I'm back to consulting.

Things I claim to be doing but don't ever actually get around to: improving my Spanish, improving my photography. Let me know if you can help.
I’m really good at
Those addictive flash games, anything that involves strategy, communicating with people that don't speak a language I know, procrastination, listening, losing my keys for an hour, losing my cell phone for a day, making friends with animals
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm not sure -- it used to be that I had to ask their name 3 times. But I've worked on that and I'm pretty good with names now.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I rarely watch TV...which isn't a hipster value judgement, I just got out of the habit while traveling and now I just watch the best shows through the internet or netflix or whatever. I do however love movies, especially in the theater!

Books - Most often fiction/mysteries, because I like read for relaxation. So lots of mystery and crime novels. But I read a lot, and get nonfiction and all kinds of other books as well on any topic that interests me. Recently I've been reading a lot about photography and Persian culture.

Movies - Lost in Translation, Heat, Blade Runner, Alien, Beverly Hills Cop, Gattaca, Die Hard, the Goonies, the Breakfast Club. In general anything related to Ridley Scott or John Hughes.

But also smaller films and foreign stuff, like Whale Rider, Let the Right One In, El Secreto de Sus Ojos

TV - Dramas mainly...Dexter, The Wire, Justified, CSI, Breaking Bad, Mythbusters, Castle, House

Sports: College football, hockey. My year in South America during the World Cup has started me down the road to becoming a futbol fan!

Music - Phoenix, MGMT, Radiohead, Flogging Molly, Thievery Corporation, Nick Drake, the Cranberries, U2

Food - Indian, Thai, Korean, burgers, mexican, and every other ethnic food you can name

I also listen to NPR most of the time when I've got the radio on
