My self-summary
I enjoy the company of the kind and curious.

I like shared meals, meandering conversations, unexpected detours, and random epiphanies. I take more meaning from pop lyrics than Bible verse. I think science and art are the pinnacle achievements of humanity. I like the concept of people, yet ... people often fuck that up. Including me, I must confess.

I've lived long enough to assemble my unique collections of regrets and achievements, dreams and fears, adventures and ruts. I've raised a family, sent kids to college, cared for parents, and shared my life with dogs, cows, goats, sheep, parrots, horses, and llamas. All gone now. But... I did it my way.

I play music for friends and bars, but usually more to meet interesting people than the modest tips. I sketch, but more to enhance my perceptions than to create an art career. I love to play with my food... cook and combine in different ways, creating modest magic from apparently ordinary ingredients. And... I love the company of an engaging people, a handful of beverage, a flickering fire, and the sound of rain. Too much sun makes me squint, as I usually don't remember where I put my sunglasses.

I enjoy the moment where random events collide to produce an wondrous effect. I love to discover people who are connecting with their world in expansive ways. Awareness always seems to work better than preplanned outcomes. In short, I love to be pleasantly surprised.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in a professional transition, trying to build a new endeavor from the power of past experiences. Challenging.
I’m really good at
... seeing how opportunities fit together, how people can work together to achieve something just out of reach, and how we can explore the ordinary and find the extraordinary.
The first things people usually notice about me
Taller than the average bear. Also, people usually think I'm smarter than I really am. I don't know if that's a good thing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Hmmm... I'll have to think. The Princess Bride and Thai cuisine. Kurt Vonnegut and dim sum. The Usual Suspects and Elvis Costello. Art photography. Brazilian music. Seasonal produce. Italian meats. Hard cheeses. Wikipedia surfing. Instructional books. Obscure history. Neil Young. Curb Your Enthusiasm. Randy Newman. Leon Russell. New Orleans piano. Tapas. Sushi. Baguettes. Asparagus. Basil. Street food. Spam musubi.
The six things I could never do without
Reliable, non-judgey friends
Smatterings of tasty food
Comfy shoes
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how people yearn for similar passions, yet are bound by fear from following the paths to what they desire. How "love" is such a necessary part of healthy existence, yet how we fear the consequences of loving and being loved.

And... I think about what I'm going to prepare for dinner.
On a typical Friday night I am
... wondering why Fridays aren't as interesting as they should be. I think I might be part of the problem ... and the solution. Still processing that.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I killed a man in Reno just to see him die.

Oh, wait... that was Johnny Cash. Nah, I didn't do anything THAT bad.

I'm not sure what this topic is getting at. I'm going to give the lawyerly answer of "it depends," subject to my whim.
You should message me if
you can hold a conversation about anything that interests you, with the expectation that we will not finish where we begin. Or if you want to explore this world a bit more. Or if you are hungry and don't know what to do for lunch. Or if you want a cocktail that you've never tried before. Or if you want to see a movie that makes you smile. Or if you want a wooded walk. Or if you want me to write a spontaneous song for your amusement. Or if you just want to hang out until we figure out where the frolic might lead us.
