My self-summary
Thanks for stopping by.
● I've figured out that many things in life are both simpler and more complicated than I once thought. The trick and the challenge is to figure out which is which. The fact that a trick is needed sort of diminishes the value of that insight. Two steps forward, 1.5 steps back -- such is life.
● Curiosity seems to be my default setting: my internal monologue is peppered with "how come...?" and "why....?" and "why don't.....?" and "wouldn't it be better if.....?" questioning; fortunately, I can indulge this tendency while also attending to the mundane practicalities of everyday life such as laundry-folding. Good times - I really like the scent of freshly-dried clean clothes.
What I’m doing with my life
✦ Striving to shift my focus from work to a somewhat neglected personal life. Hey, you look like a helpful sort: you could help me achieve this goal, AND bank yourself some hefty good Karma points to boot!
✦ Enjoying the fruits of my labors -- a rewarding career & job that I enjoy (mostly every day) and savoring the knowledge that I have reached a very good place in my career.
✦ Working with teenagers every day as a teacher/coach
✦ Starting to look for a new home.
✦ Planning a future mega-trip to Europe: Britain, France, Spain, Italy
✦ Trying to trace my family tree back to the 1700s.
✦ Training for my first marathon (g_d & left foot permitting!).
✦ Helping my senior auntie with the wonders of "i" devices.
✦ Getting an early start on my lengthy bucket list (2 bucket?)
✦ Researching the best city/country/school, etc. to go to for a Spanish immersion experience.
✦ Planning & kicking off a brand new school alumni association.
✦ Like you, putting myself out there [okay, out HERE] warts and all (figurative, not real) hoping to meet a partner with a compatible personality, values, goals, attractiveness-level, issues and baggage (sorted through, neatly packed and carefully stowed away) so together we might merge our lives and enrich/enliven/entrance/enchant each other's every (okay, 80% of them) living moment -- or at least never be asked to star in our own reality show.
I’m really good at
➣ McGyvering an effective make-shift fix-it to almost any problem.
➣ Thinking outside the box (NOW you tell me there's box!).
➣ Seeing the micro in the macro & vice versa.
➣ Drinking in life with the gusto of a jaded pragmatic idealist.
➣ Slapping together a plan C while plan A stiil seems shiny & bright.
➣ Producing puns of diverse quality in industrial quantities; in other words, proudly flying my nerd-nation flag.
➣ Packaging constructive criticism so the receiver will benefit. Then ducking.
➣ Putting myself in another person's shoes, trying to view a situation from his/her perspective (see, it's NOT a shoe fetish thing!).

[Okay, guilty: more than 6 items - but cleverly organized into 6 easy-to-peruse categories for your partner-shopping convenience!]
I spend a lot of time thinking about
☀ How to answer questions like this one.
☀ The uncomfortable & awkward but inescapable connection between pain & constructive, positive, solidly-rooted long-term growth.
☀ How to craft the perfect first OkCupid message. Perfect as in there's a reply inviting further cyber contact.
☀ If the universe is really expanding, why are there fewer cookies in the cookie jar today?
On a typical Friday night I am
☛ Sending out wicked positive vibes of weary gratitude to the inventor of the weekend.
☛ Destressing & decompressing at the gym.
☛ Righting the wrongs of the universe with friends over barley-based refreshments.
☛ Chowing down at the pub, hockey/baseball on one screen, basketball/football on another, going through the day's newspapers.
☛ Riding the GO train/bus to visit my sister & her crew for the weekend.
☛ Getting a brain purge watching/snoozing with some bad TV.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I will stop to pick up pennies.
