My self-summary
I am a curious and joyful person, equally at home wandering aimlessly through remote places at night and sitting on the front steps watching the sun & rain. i love culture of all kinds but quietly hate the city. quiet things, trees, water and campfires appeal to me immensely. I expect a lot, but will accept whatever i find.

who are you? that's not a rhetorical set up, I'm not about to describe my ideal person. i love people and their stories & idiosyncrasies, and generally feel like i have at least some things in common with most. so let's share some stories. the only thing I'm not interested in is a lot of falsity and fakeness. there really is no good reason not to be as real as possible.
What I’m doing with my life
exploring. trying to balance art, spirit, and physical necessities. working as a therapist. finishing the last leg of grad school (for now, anyway).
I’m really good at
music. I've been studying/playing guitar (classical - bach to romantics to tangos to modern madness - jazz, folk, punk, metal, whatever) for 16 years or so. I have a BA in Music & used to spend 12 hours a day practicing. I also (almost) have a MA in creative arts/music therapy.

i'm a half decent poet, but only half. i've done a lot of poetry mic kind of things, and was a visiting poet once for an undergraduate class. but i haven't published anything (perfectionism, one day i will overcome you).

i'm not into hurting people (except in good fun) but i HAVE been studying martial arts since i was 7. Aikido, Isshin-Ryu Karate, Kempo, some Judo, some wrestling, Taijijuan (the 'standard' Yang style and, for the past ~3-4 years, martial Chen style), a very small amount of Baguazhang and a similarly small amount of capoeira. i've been practicing qi-gong since I was 12, yoga since I was born, and I meditate every day. I used to be in an amateur MMA league (read: fight club) with my friends in high-school, but I don't watch UFC anymore. i don't know, it got too 'roided out and bro-y.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
authors, in no particular order: Gene Wolfe, Haruki Murakami, Mervyn Peake, Thomas Cleary, Michael Ende, Patricia McKillip, Tolkien, Orhan Pamuk, Jorge Luis Borges, James Joyce, Andre Breton

poets: Hafiz, Jorge Luis Borges, Mallarme, e.e. cummings, Paul Eluard, Rabindranath Tagore, Andre Breton, Rumi, w.s. Merwin, oh man, are you even reading this? does anyone read poetry??

music: Sun Kil Moon, the sounds of frogs and crickets and sunlight and rain, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, oh my god I'm so tired of listing things.
The six things I could never do without
free time
open sky
I spend a lot of time thinking about
minute details of musical experiences, psychological traps that i get myself into, complex rhythmic patterns, syntactic jokes and anomalies, whether time actually exists (pretty sure it's a figment of our imaginations. one of these days i'll figure out how to travel sideways in it.)
