My self-summary
The three adjectives are an odd combination, I know. I am once again, having just gotten a new research postion, a social science researcher, as well as a university faculty, albeit of the adjunct rank - the migrant farmworkers of the teaching world.

I am reentering the so-called dating world, and amazed and perhaps a bit amused at how much it has changed. I am looking for someone who laughs at the world when it deserves it, but who takes the time to figure out what deserves laughter, and what not.

I would best describe myself as open - I have friends of all ages and political stripes, and always want to learn or experience something new. Probably all I ask is that you not be dogmatic (or if you are, are open to a conversation about why). But then, who thinks he or she is dogmatic?

Oh, and the usual list, long walks by water, dancing, and drowning in each other eyes.

I am intellectual, passionate, and funny
What I’m doing with my life
Hard question; a lot of what I am doing is in my teaching. Also caring about issues of social justice. And reading, and Taking long walks and working out. Oh, and a little time to sew, dance, and have long conversations about just about anything.

And I finally have the time to finish a novel I have been (mostly not) working on for 5 years.

Of course I am also spending time looking for the one. I know you are out there. Although meeting new friends would also be a plus.
I’m really good at
Um, well that is something to be found out. But honestly, I can talk to almost anyone and find something of interest. Which is a bit of a contradiction, because I am also shy. But no one said I am consistent.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. And my smile.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Too long a list. Currently reading a lot on sustainability, how we got ourselves into this current political and economic situation. My favorite movie probably changes to whatever I saw last. It is a wide list - I like everything from kids' movies to romances to portraits like Nixon Frost (said whatever I saw last). Devour mysteries, mostly those set in the Bay Area. Taste in music eclectic - almost anything but country, although I particularly like "old style" jazz. Like various Asian foods.
Six things I could never do without
people I care about

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I am an academic. I think for a living. About politics, poverty, all that stuff.

And when I am less serious (which I am really) thinking is overrated.
On a typical Friday night I am
Too hard to answer - out with friends, taking a walk, or at certain times in the semester, grading papers. (Why do I keep assigning them?)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Another thing to be found out.
You should message me if
I interest you of course, you are looking for friends, perhaps someone to do things with, or just because you like to explore the world. Or you want to have a really good discussion about whether poverty in the US is inevitable (warn you, I teach a course on the topic).

Or maybe because you think something more is possible between us.
