My self-summary
I'm originally from Texas; I moved here two and a half years ago to program for a startup, which is still going strong.

I'm loving California so far! There's so much to do, so much to see; Even after all this time it feels like I'm just barely scratching the surface.
What I’m doing with my life
Workdays, I program for a small (but growing!) startup in downtown Oakland. In the evenings and weekends, there's running & the gym, plus fun stuff like--

. Working on a top secret side project!
. Hiking here in Berkeley/Oakland hills, or in the incredibly beautiful Mount Tam area
. Checking out the latest dumb horror/action movie
. Happy hour (... usually hours) with co-workers
. Not-infrequent Tahoe ski trips and Yosemite hiking trips
. Enjoying games of both the board and video variety.
. Reading thought-provoking books (also, some not-so thought provoking fun ones)
I’m really good at
. Thinking creatively; designing new things, coming up with new ways of approaching things; dreaming up fictional worlds, people, stories.
. Games; strategy; thinking three moves ahead.
. Learning how to do new things, usually programming related, but sometimes not. (At the moment, I'm working through a bunch of books on drafting and rendering, which has been really fun.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books
Evenly divided between pure fun escapism like The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss or Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, and thought-provoking sciency books like Moral Tribes: Emotion, Reason, and the Gap Between Us and Them by Joshua Green

Shows
Big dramas are my jam, man. The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek

Movies
All over the place on this one. Basically I'll watch anything that's good, or loud, or horrifying. I have a special place in my heart for huge, ambitious, imaginative flicks. Favorites include: Cloverfield, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, A Single Man, Edge of Tomorrow, 3:10 to Yuma, Star Wars, Interstellar, It's a Wonderful Life (shut up)
The six things I could never do without
Coffee, for sure. The internet. Running shoes. Podcasts. Driving. A pen and notepad.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Economics. Utilitarianism. What was Starbuck in season 4 anyway? My super secret project. The next new thing to learn. Politics.
On a typical Friday night I am
My Friday nights are usually super boring, (except for the occasional happy hour, or new movie opening, or traveling). 4 out of 5 nights it's exercise, then takeout, then something relaxing, like a bit of work on the side project and/or a few rounds of a MOBA and/or catching something fun on Netflix.
