My self-summary
I learn. I explore. I adventure about in in the world. I was in the Army for 9 years. I was in school for seven years. I worked as a rookie wildland firefighter for a bit. I worked on the Innocence Project. These are things I'm glad I've done and I'm proud of these accomplishments. I want to accomplish more...

It is quite strange to be on an actual dating website... I recently moved to this area after living in Chicago and then the Champaign area after graduating from law school. I have friends, but to be honest, I've been working and studying for so long I don't have the slightest idea how to start dating again. Plus, work keeps me busy most of the time.

Ask me a question! I think questions frequently tell more about the person who asks them than what the actual answer might say. Let's put that to the test. Let's have a dialogue.
What I’m doing with my life
I am learning about the actual practice of law, now that I have a degree. I recently left a local firm to work in county government.
I’m really good at
research and understanding. I was a journalism major for a bit, and I loved interviewing a wide variety of people and finding out who they were, what their motivations were, where they came from. I very much miss that, but I consider myself an excellent conversationalist.
The first things people usually notice about me
my grin, maybe? I don't know. I've been told that when I'm interested in something or someone I "lock on." I guess that's drive, right? Can drive be something people notice about you first?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Here we go, in no particular order: The Name of the Wind, Out of Sight, James, and Sushi, the Harpers Biography of Sir Richard Francis Burton, the Empire Strikes Back, and Burritos; Ready Player One, Anything by Joe Abercrombie or Richard Morgan, The Killers, Gnarls Barkley, Rome, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Shameless, the Walking Dead, the West Wing, Firefly, that song Up from Below, Aliens, Planetary, Actual Innocence, Thai food is good, the Ken Burns Civil War series, Frontline, The Bridge of San Luis Rey, Transmetropolitan, John Keegan, Stephen Ambrose, anything by Errol Morris, Joan Jett, John Krakauer, Edith Piaf, Like a Friend by Pulp and if you know where I heard that the first time we may very well be good, great friends...

I love fiction and nonfiction, both. I won a couple of competitions at my local library for most books read in the summer of 1st and 2nd grade. I think I kind of coasted through school after that intense reading experience, but I love reading. I love literacy. I love libraries. There is nothing quite so much like heaven on earth as a library, perhaps the arms of a good woman might give it a run for its money...

Understand that I read rather widely and like to try new foods, I guess of the three my music tastes are the most... unrefined, I suppose, is the word?
The six things I could never do without
Family, Friendship, Literacy, Honor, Accomplishment, and Goals
I spend a lot of time thinking about
my next goal: Ya gotta have goals.
On a typical Friday night I am
out and about with friends; seeing movies, playing games, getting a decent beer or a decent mocha.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
is that I am very new to the area.
You should message me if
you understand that I want to be goofy and geeky around someone I like because my job requires me to be a professional, like wear a suit everyday professional... If you can tell me about a good book I haven't read or a movie I might love then let's be friends. IF we're attracted to one then we can get to know one another. I'm not interested in short term or casual. I'm not a hound and never have been.

I can talk equally intelligently about politics, literature, law, video gaming, movies, and history. In the end, though, I'm a nerd looking for someone with passion, some common interests and an interesting mind.
