My self-summary
I'm the perfect balance of city and country, analytical and emotional, creative and business, high-brow and low-brow, mainstream and bat-shit crazy when it comes to music, Coors and Basil Hayden's. You get the idea - I'm open to all of it. Everything that can be found out there in this acid trip world of God's creation I'm seeking to find it. The most important thing I'm looking for, though, is love. Of course I'm talking about a soul mate, a relationship, but I'm also talking about the love of friends, of family; the love I had between my dog and myself; those small moments of love bursting in your chest when you help an old lady carry her bags up the subway steps or you chase down a guy who left his cell phone on the coffee shop table. Even just the moment to love yourself as you sit in the sun on a Sunday morning drinking that first cup of coffee and opening the Sunday NY Times.

All that might make me sound like a hippie. I am not. I have sophisticated tastes and I've been lucky enough in my life to have a job that enables me to afford luxuries, hobbies and indulgences that the vast majority of the world will not ever experience. I consider myself grateful.

At heart I'm an introvert - I like to think and process and observe and absorb, but you would never know it. I'm extroverted enough that friends never believe me when I tell them I'm introverted. That said, if you are looking for the life of the party - the guy that everyone in the room turns to when he walks in - that will not be me. I would like to meet a girl that easily draws me out of my brain and keeps me on my toes. I like sass, feistiness, teasing and ball-breaking. If you're not making fun of me for something I might start thinking you don't like me anymore. I consider nearly any topic fair game for humor and joking so if you are easily offended or can't understand that one can separate a joke about a topic from one's true belief in that topic, then we might not get along.

Here are some more basics:

- I love the outdoors and anything to do with water. In fact, if I had gills I'd probably be the happiest dude on Earth. I wouldn't be a pussy like Aquaman though. More like Kevin Costner in Waterworld. But I digress.

- I like old things, especially guitars, cameras, record players, furniture, cars, you name it.

- I travel a lot but I also LOVE being home. Something about sitting in my own place making my own coffee and watching the sun warm up my own floor. Then again, I wouldn't mind being in Casablanca right now either. I'm very well traveled - went to see Pope John Paul II perform an Easter service at the Vatican with my school when I was 13 and then when I was 14 spent the whole summer in France by myself, staying with different families that knew my dad from work.

- I like getting lost.

The rest, as they say, is for me to know and you to find out. That's the fun of it anyway, isn't it?
What I’m doing with my life
Payin the bills, makin the bacon.
I’m really good at
Smoking meat. Listening. Driving long distances. Finding awesome divey restaurants. Petting dogs and cats. Making children laugh. Seeing. It's really quite amazing how many people have eyes but do not see. Not taking these dating site questions seriously.
The first things people usually notice about me
Who it normal to ask people you just met "Hey, what's the first thing you noticed about me?"? (How does the grammar work when you quote a question inside a question? I dunno but I like the double question mark.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Moby Dick is my favorite book. There's no way I can answer what my favorite movie is. My favorite food is brunch.

I know this kind of thing tends to be used to gauge similarity of tastes, so here's a quick sampling of some of my faves of each:

Movies: The Science Of Sleep, Broken English, Cool Hand Luke, Crumb, You're Gonna Miss Me, Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Down By Law, Ed Wood, The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, Harold and Maude, Withnail and I

TV: The Wire (friggin rocks! rocked?), Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, The Muppet Show, Black Adder, The Mighty Boosh, Frontline, Curb Your Enthusiasm, MythBusters

Music: The Pixies, The Wedding Present, Varnaline, Bob Dylan, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ace of Base (yes), Luna, M. Ward, Bloc Party, Interpol, Built To Spill, Joy Division and New Order, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Knife, Leonard Cohen, Modest Mouse, get the picture. I just love music, period.

Books: let's just say I read. A lot. Like I usually trip over about five or six books getting up in the morning. Currently I am regretting the decision to start a 900 page bio of Fyodor Dostoevskii. Mostly cuz I haven't finished my 600 page bio of Napoleon yet, plus I started Cloud Atlas but only managed to commit to like 2 chapters. You see where I'm going here, right?

Food: yes please.
The six things I could never do without
Sadly now I have to do without my dog - but I will always have the memories. Brunch. Sun. Music. Bacon. A car. Friends. Sleep. The open road. Books. Affection. My guitar(s). A slow cooker. Ignoring instructions.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
Rescuing kittens from trees, returning lost children to their mothers, etc etc.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
What's the fun of admitting private things here?
You should message me if
You like the couch as much as you like the mountains, the city, bars, paris, etc. You know how to flirt - you'd be surprised how many girls do not know how to flirt or be seductive. I guess it's a dying art. You are passionate about something and willing to share it with me, maybe even teach me.
