My self-summary
Carpenter/contractor/former ballet dancer/filmmaker/woodworker, wannabe musician, occasional sculptor & composer who ought to get out more.

And the handle is meant to be chiseledabsNOT. Nothing to do with boogers. That's gross!
What I’m doing with my life
Rehabbing my quiet cottage on the river. Trying to play guitar, harmonica and piano. Don't ask.

I have a great job as the house carpenter for a world-class music school. So I know just how bad a musician I am! Yet I've been invited to play and compose with this lot. I am very lucky and they are very tolerant.
.
Eagerly devising and revising my 5- and 10-year plans to get the most travel and art-making time possible.

I'm very athletic and I hate the gym. My CrossFit training is schlepping large loads of lumber, tending my yard, throwing dirt and building materials around. Love the woods, hiking and kayaking. Topped a couple of 11K footers (Grand Teton at 50 fulfilled a dream from when I first saw it at 14.) Annual treks to Katahdin. I love travel to meet people, eat food and DO THINGS! Not a resort guy.
I’m really good at
Listening, thinking outside the box. Procrastinating.
Dancing.
Writing.
The first things people usually notice about me
Never asked. Blue eyes? My wicked cool arms?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Histories, bios, Nabokov, Borges, Garcia Marquez. The New Yorker, Louise Erdrich, Graham Greene. Wide range, foreign and domestic.

Raging Bull (and lots of Scorcese), Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, Christopher Guest, Louis Malle, film noir, Herzog, Fassbinder, Cassavetes, Wenders. Boogie Nights! Philip Seymour Hoffman (alas)

Very big on jazz from Bix to Bird to Bill (Evans, Butler, Frissell, you name it), blues, The Who, Talking Heads, Tom Waits. Looking at her body of work, Joni Mitchell should win the Nobel Prize. I've come to appreciate rap but I don't listen to it. Beethoven & all kinds of classical & modern. Arvo Part, Third Stream, Americana, West African pop... not a fan of current pop music in general....

Not a regular TV watcher, don't have cable. Not a sports nut, but watch the Pats, of course...
The six things I could never do without
My son, six times over
Six strings: EADGBE
Six sibs.
My '67 Guild
Mountains and the woods. Ocean, too.
Kind of Blue.
(Six sidemen and six songs, if you get the '97 reissue)

And the Bonus Track: Richard Thompson's solo on "My Soul, My Soul". Definitely.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Designing and redesigning my cottage. Dating as theory.

I also think about what the Dalai Lama says every time I see him. "You're much better looking than your picture! Not very photogenic, are we?" Such a kidder! But it's true.
On a typical Friday night I am
Thinking about Saturday and what to do on the house. Thinking about field experience in dating.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Under a flippant, shallow exterior is a flippant, shallow core. Actually, as I get older I find things touch me more and more deeply. I tear up at the drop of a hat. Not long ago, I heard Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" live for the first time and I was destroyed. So don't drop a hat while whistling Beethoven.
You should message me if
You are independent, adventurous, fit, funnyfunnyfunny and a mite askew. You are happily engrossed in your art, your work, your world with a little time to spare.
