(He was trying to figure out how to recline his seat.)
Of all time: Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Microserfs, Foreign Affairs, The Line of Beauty, Number9Dream, A Visit From The Goon Squad, The Tales of the City series (guiltless guilty pleasure), On Beauty/On Beauty and Being Just.
(b) The Last Days of Disco, Annie Hall, Heathers, Ikiru, Contempt, Goodbye Lenin!, Lost In Translation, HAUSU, Last Life In The Universe, Mean Girls, Happy Together (almost anything Wong Kar Wai), I Don't Want To Sleep Alone, You Can Count On Me, Repo Man, Network, Sans Soleil... these lists leave me cold, yet I feel compelled to write them. I think that's what we'll remember from the 2000s -- a profusion of personality tests, and ordered informational displays of what we believe to be our interests. If you want to talk about this idea with me, I have a LOT of opinions about it.
(c) Sloan, M83, Broken Social Scene, Kate Bush, Blur's classic period, anything that takes me back to my salad days (2000s college rock)... I'm trying to find new music, and I'm kind of surprised at what I enjoy these days. Pop music always seemed like a specific mode of satisfaction and mental button-pressing, so it's funny to see what you desire change.
(d) I used to have a really great kitchen in my apartment, and no life. I now have an ok kitchen, and half a life. I eat what I'm served, is what I'm saying.
