My self-summary
I endeavour to meet a truly engaging woman for a serious relationship that would ultimately lead to marriage, if I am fortunate. However, if things were to go into the direction of a platonic friendship, I certainly wouldn't pass it by. I tend to think I am a reasonably multi-faceted individual and enjoy various pursuits. I enjoy attending concerts which would include anything from something electronic/Goth-related to the symphony, or the opera. I also love going to theatrical performances and seeing Shakespeare performed in the summer is quite lovely. Some things that fascinate me include art, antiques, gardening, interior design, fashion, enjoying the finer things in life, culinary pursuits, motor vehicles, architecture, genealogy and history. I also happen to be an ardent advocate for historic preservation and liberty. Another undeniable trait would be my sardonic sense of humour, which I've come to realise isn't everyone's cup of tea. It might also be said that I am a dandified chap and quite the consummate Anglophile (blame my parents for taking an eleven-year-old to London). This fact would also explain my usage of alternative British spellings.

I am anachronistic, intellectual, and amusing, or so I like to believe.
What I’m doing with my life
I am relatively new to the Akron area (I originally hail from the Youngstown-Warren region), having moved here in the late summer of 2009. I currently work in the field of graphic design for a jewelry company. In late 2007 I purchased an old house--circa 1923--and I am renovating it little by little. Taking my pup, Zara, for nice long walks in the evening, which is not only good for both of us, she is also my license to explore my rather interesting neighbourhood--without looking like I might be casing the area--and get a closer look at all the beautiful, old homes that surround me. Other than those items, I am in a general pursuit of knowledge and understanding, all the while immersing myself with culture, accompanied by a spirit of exploration. Anything old will generally capture my attention and it would not be an exaggeration to say that I see history as a guiding light.

I do a fair amount of collecting antiquarian books, the infrequent antique, and historic ephemera (postcards, programs, etc.). I see my house as one great art project of sorts, so deciding what to do in terms of interior design in my charming little house is something that I often ponder. I am fond of researching new bands, films, locations of interest, local history and new recipes. I also enjoy visiting said locations of interest, new restaurants, old favourites and attending unusual events (the Akron Symphony performing at Glendale Cemetery, Obscura Day at the Dittrick, a magic lantern show at the Hayesville Opera House would be some fine examples of this pursuit). I find it greatly rewarding taking care of my pup, my house and my plants. I always look forward to autumn, my utmost favourite season which will allow me to use my fireplace, but also winter with its beautiful snow that I find so transcendent. I cannot overstate how much sitting fireside viewing a film or doing some reading is a fantastic way to spend an evening. Aside from the wonderful warm and glow of the fireplace, it also provides one with a connection to history. Other than those items I am currently in the midst of renovating my half-bath with my father.
I’m really good at
I like to think I have a discerning eye for various things: fashion, graphic design, interior design, etc. I can cook and bake to a reasonable degree. I would say that I am quite mannerly and cordial, so I guess one might say I am good at not being rude or uncouth. I attach a great importance in using correct spelling and grammar--I'm still working on certain aspects of both. I also have a fair amount of knowledge on the subject of history and a number of other random topics, which may one day prove valuable on Jeopardy. All that being said, I would agree with the phrase that I am a jack of all trades, but master of none.
The first things people usually notice about me
Possibly the fastidious manner in which I dress. I am quite particular about how I present myself and I certainly separate myself from the herd, whether it be because of my taste in peculiar things or my opinions. I do happen to get a lot of compliments on my shoes and my attire in general, sometimes from the most unlikely sources. Aside from that, I truly do not know and the onlooker would have to be the judge in the end.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favourite books really vary, but I am fond of poetry, history, political theory, philosophy, classic literature, horror, art, architecture and lexicon. I do a fair deal of reading and research on a copious amount of topics online.

The films that pique my interest include: horror, mystery, period dramas, foreign, independent, documentaries, and silent films mostly. I most recently viewed the amazing film, 'Cave of Forgotten Dreams'. British comedies, whether films or television programs are always great! Those include: 'Little Britain', 'That Mitchell & Webb Look', and 'Peep Show', amongst others.

My musical tastes include, but are not limited to Goth rock, EBM, industrial, synthpop, electroclash, dark ambient, trip hop, 80's new wave and new romantic, post-punk, classical, chamber, baroque, medieval/Renaissance music, opera and jazz. I have a fondness for film scores as well, which tend to be a great combination of styles.

I do not have cable but do possess a Bluray from which I stream Netflix and Amazon Instant. My current Netflix favourites include: 'Bates Motel', 'Salem', 'Ripper Street', and the 'Great British Baking Show'. I also watch quite a variety of documentaries on a myriad of topics on YouTube.

Generally speaking, I would say that I gravitate heavily towards darker themes, melancholy, the obscure and the esoteric when it comes to art, films, books, music, etc.

I like a great deal of food, but my favourites are Italian (my Italian heritage does make me a trifle bit bias), Japanese, Mexican and traditional American. I am mostly a wine and tea drinker, though I have widened my horizons with coffee and the ever so often beer. My three favourite places to dine are Bender's Tavern in Canton and The Spread Eagle Tavern in Hanoverton. I cannot deny that I am a fan of fine dining and always love the opportunity to dine at an elegant restaurant.
The six things I could never do without
The most important things in life are family, friends, pets, health, knowledge, and all those trivial things that make life just that much better. One of those would be the perfect cup of tea.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Quite a variety of things that change from time to time. I do often think a lot about history, how things once were, and what those people had to endure during their time. And as most people do, I dwell upon the future and what it might hold. These are simply topics I frequently mull over, but I would say that I am constantly thinking about the mysteries of life such as vanity plates and why anyone views sweatpants/lounge pants as acceptable clothing to wear in public.
On a typical Friday night I am
This could vary from week to week, as there is no set plans for Friday night. Once in a while a group of people from work go out to a local tavern, sometimes I stay home and go on a late night walk with the puppy, or I might watch a film or catch up on some reading.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am something of a romantic, but I might hesitate to say hopelessly so.
You should message me if
You also crave great conversation, you are someone with depth, you can appreciate culture and possess an intellectual capacity. Not necessarily essential, but it wouldn't hurt if this hypothetical person enjoys the strange, esoteric and obscure. Taking pride in ones appearance and having some sort of fashion sense is also very much appreciated.

If nothing else, please make an effort when messaging me, as I will not reply to one word messages or anything else that is more befitting of a text message; I require substance.
