My self-summary
A wearer of slightly-rose-colored glasses, trying to navigate a world going madder by the moment. Though cynical of most of the folk who have their hands on the levers of power, I'm an unashamed optimist when it comes to my little corner of the world.

I am bright, sincere, and affectionate
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to figure out what to do next! My daughter just flew the coop to Kalamazoo, and my son will go to Houghton (Houghton! Tibet is closer!) next year. I'm applying to seminary in Ft. Wayne, but even if that happens, I'll be around for a year. ( I will be moving to Ft. Wayne in June...)
I’m really good at
Conversation. Fixing things. Entertaining children. Sitting without fidgeting through movies and concerts. Back rubs. Foot rubs. Belly rubs. Skewering fatuous politicians. Hiking. Finding obscure, interesting backroads to travel.
The first things people usually notice about me
I smile a lot. Laugh more. Talk to people in check-out lines. Always asking people if I can pet their dog.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies: Groundhog Day, Cool Hand Luke, Breaking Away, The Matrix, Dr. Zhivago, Idiocracy, 2001: A Space Odyssey, True Grit, The Jerk, The Killing Fields, Miss Potter, Casablanca.

Food? I like everything, love Japanese, and only dislike two foods: Eggplant and Sea-Urchin sushi. Ever wonder what a warm, smelly tidal pool tastes like? Try sea urchin.

Music: I like it all, love acoustic/folk (think Gordon Lightfoot, Dougie MacLean), really love classical (small chamber groups) and adore J.S. Bach. I used to sing and play guitar a lot, and am recently rediscovering all the joy that can be found there.

My guilty pleasures? Techno, dance/club/trance, South Park, Devo, Ed's Redeeming Qualities, Death Cab, Modern English, Erasure, and John Denver. Less guilt: yoga and riding my motorcycle.

There is so much to learn and so VERY little time to do it. I read periodicals. New York Times, Wired, Reason, World, Popular Science, Adbusters. If it's on glossy paper, I read it. And I'm doomed....DOOMED I tell you, if I wander into a Barnes and Noble.......
Six things I could never do without
My children,

Coffee + something to read while drinking it.

A sense of God in my life.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
The world as it might be. I've never abandoned idealism.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working out, trying to find some live, small venue to listen to music. Reading. Being a vegetable.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
KIssing is WAAAAAY underrated.
You should message me if
YOu want to go slow, develop a friendship, nurture an inexplicable desire to have a friendship/relationship with a goofy, eclectic guy, have a genuine passion for life, kids, dogs and intelligent conversation, and are not afraid of this:

"two roads diverged in a wood, and I?
I took the one less traveled by,
and that has made all the difference"

***Update: The pic you see is five years old. Same body, actually in better shape cause of the yoga, but there are a few more gray hairs in the beard so will be changing that soon. Also......I finally DID make it to the seminary. That's a story best told over coffee. : ) ***
