My self-summary
I am now married to Roisin_ni_Patra. We're looking for new friends, people to hang out with, and to find new people we can call family.

I'm creative and strangely literal; passionate, playful, and very analytical. I'm loud on the inside, quiet by temperament, and start to get loud around people again.
What I’m doing with my life
I do office work for the County, which gave me an opportunity to learn some graphic design. That's been a lot of fun.

I'm currently focusing heavily on my photography. Just got an external flash and am working on off-camera lighting. Mostly I love close-up, abstract work.

I travel. I went to Scotland and England (mostly Cornwall) in '07, Ireland in '08, Italy for '09, Spain in '10, Sequoia, Yosemite and Mammoth 2011.
The wife is a Disneyphile, so now I've been to Disneyworld. Loved it.

I have a broad interest in martial arts and general physical culture. I love the feeling of refining my ability to move.
I’m really good at
Asking questions and forgetting to stop. If it gets a bit much, let me know.

Critical analysis of literature (I was an English major, went to USD), photography, video games, outdoors stuff like camping. I volunteered as a trip guide with the outdoors group at college and love every minute I'm in the mountains. I cook better out camping then I do at home, too. :D

Not so good at: Forming lasting connections. Things take a while and I'm just fabulous at letting people drift away before a good bond is developed.
The first things people usually notice about me
Well now, let's see: freckles, shaved head, dark red goatee. People tend to recognize me. I hear I have nice eyes.

I've also been told that I look like I walked straight out of my photos. Take that as you will.

I have a strong personality. I can be opinionated and I'm aware that this comes across as judgmental at times. I try to maintain objective interactions though.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
Science fiction and fantasy: especially David Gerrold, Neil Gaiman, and Terry Pratchett, H.P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick. George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. Marillier's The Dark Mirror.

In other genres: Haruki Murakami, Cormac McCarthy, Jeanette Winterson's The Passion.

I also like a fair bit of poetry, especially Romantics, Modernism (like T.S. Elliot) and Symbolists. A recent discovery I love is Wilfred Owen, a poet from WW1.

I also read quite a few webcomics.

Movies:
As before, science fiction, fantasy, horror... Things like Fifth Element, Children of Men, Event Horizon, Leon, Spirited Away, Alien series, Falling Down, Fight Club, most of Tim Burton's movies, some of Kubrick's, Office Space, Mirrormask, all kinds of stuff.

Music:
Favorite group is Oingo Boingo, and I listen to Danny Elfman's film compositions as well. Jurassic 5, Sage Francis, Spearhead, Type O Negative, Metallica, Opeth, Tool, TV on the Radio, Riverside, White Lies, Blue October, Blind Melon, Tegan and Sara, The Roots. That's a good sample.

I sing loudly and passionately to my music. Drag me kicking and screaming to karaoke, you'll see.

Food: I crave burritos and Japanese food. I grew up here, and was raised on quite a variety.
I love food, and enjoy cooking, when I have the time to focus on it.
I brew freshly ground french press coffee.
Tea is a meditation of sorts.
Scotch. Whisky. Beer. Manhattan, for a mixed drink.
The six things I could never do without
I suppose my wife should go here. :D
My computer. It holds the keys to the internet.
Books.
Music.
Coffee, tea, monster?
Camera, pen and paper, various other odds and ends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Photography, feminism, gender roles and sexuality. Putting together all kinds of interesting connections with literature and movies.
On a typical Friday night I am
I really don't have a usual Friday. Just depends on schedules and what-all. Sometimes out, but usually with a few friends or at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't have any real problem with TMI, either from other people or from myself. Although I can be tactful.

We're in the local kink scene.

And I'm mildly allergic to cats. I can spend time around them, but can't live with them. My sinuses hate me enough as it is.
You should message me if
I'm just looking for friends.

Geeks, nerds, and dorks are a plus.
