"Who wants to take a chance on a piece of abstract reality?"
My name is Jeff.
I've had this profile for ages. I use it for self reflection.
I'm deeply creative and strangely literal; passionate, playful, and very analytical. I'm loud on the inside, quiet by temperament, and start to get loud around people again.
Let's dive in: I'm an atheist with an interest in Zen Buddhism. Attempting to combine intellect and emotion, to feed intuition. I ride a line of tension between intellectual and physical pursuits. "Feed my will to feel this moment..."
You may have noticed by now: I like words. This profile is verbose and detail-oriented.
I am eccentric, curiouser, and curiouser.
Also: affectionate, tactile, and effusive.
I'm currently focusing heavily on my photography. Just got an external flash and am working on off-camera lighting. Possibly building a business.
I travel. I went to Scotland and England (mostly Cornwall) in '07, Ireland in '08, Italy for '09, Spain in '10, Sequoia, Yosemite and Mammoth last year.
Just got back from a week in DisneyWorld. Yay honeymoon.
I have a broad interest in martial arts and general physical culture. I love the feeling of refining my ability to move.
Critical analysis of literature (I was an English major, went to USD), photography, video games, outdoors stuff like camping. I volunteered as a trip guide with the outdoors group at college and love every minute I'm in the mountains. I cook better out camping then I do at home, too. :D
Not so good at: Forming lasting connections. Things take a while and I'm just fabulous at letting people drift away before a good bond is developed.
I've also been told that I look like I walked straight out of my photos. Take that as you will.
I have a strong personality. I can be opinionated and I'm aware that this comes across as judgmental at times. I try to maintain objective interactions though.
Science fiction and fantasy: especially David Gerrold, Neil Gaiman, and Terry Pratchett, H.P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick. George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. Marillier's The Dark Mirror.
In other genres: Haruki Murakami, Cormac McCarthy, Jeanette Winterson's The Passion.
I also like a fair bit of poetry, especially Romantics, Modernism (like T.S. Elliot) and Symbolists. A recent discovery I love is Wilfred Owen, a poet from WW1.
I also read quite a few webcomics.
As before, science fiction, fantasy, horror... Things like Fifth Element, Children of Men, Event Horizon, Leon, Spirited Away, Alien series, Falling Down, Fight Club, most of Tim Burton's movies, some of Kubrick's, Office Space, Mirrormask, all kinds of stuff.
Favorite group is Oingo Boingo, and I listen to Danny Elfman's film compositions as well. Jurassic 5, Sage Francis, Spearhead, Type O Negative, Metallica, Opeth, Tool, TV on the Radio, Riverside, White Lies, Blue October, Blind Melon, Tegan and Sara, The Roots. That's a good sample.
I sing loudly and passionately to my music. Drag me kicking and screaming to karaoke, you'll see.
Food: I crave burritos and Japanese food. I grew up here, and was raised on quite a variety.
I love food, and enjoy cooking, when I have the time to focus on it.
I brew freshly ground french press coffee.
Tea is a meditation of sorts.
Scotch. Whisky. Beer. Manhattan, for a mixed drink.
My computer. It holds the keys to the internet.
Coffee, tea, monster?
Camera, pen and paper, various other odds and ends.
Three general options, they get about equal time:
1. Hanging out on my own. Usually at home (reading, web browsing, etc.), or out for photography.
2. Out with my friends, usually trying some new restaurant.
3. Out with my other friends in the BDSM community. That means social stuff for the most part, and some rather interesting discussions. No, it isn't some giant orgy. Unless the recruiter lied to me...
I'm in the local kink scene. You'll learn more if appropriate.
And I'm mildly allergic to cats. I can spend time around them, but can't live with them. My sinuses hate me enough as it is.
Geeks, nerds, and dorks are a plus.
