My self-summary
I'm a pretty cheerful guy, usually looking to put a positive spin on any situation. I've just moved to Chapel Hill from South Carolina for a Ph.D. program in Neuroscience. Trying to balance having a social life with spending a ton of time on research, while also trying to meet someone. Currently looking for something long-term.
What I’m doing with my life
Working my butt off, for science! Lately, trying out cooking a lot of new things.
I’m really good at
Guitar (maybe not *really* good, but people don't run screaming when I play - they usually go "ooh, that's nice" or some such thing), nonsequitors, science, turning whatever ingredients are around into something edible.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my eyes if I'm not wearing glasses, or so I've heard once or twice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: We - Yevgeny Zamyatin, The Mote in God's Eye - Larry Niven & Jerry Pournell, the His Dark Materials trilogy - Philip Pullman, Consider Phlebas - Iain Banks, IT - Stephen King, The Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks, and bunches and bunches of others. Favorite genre is science fiction, but I can get into most books with good writing and character building.

Movies: Equilibrium, Audition, Paprika, What Dreams May Come, the first 2/3 of Dark City (not to spoil the ending, but it's just... terribad) mostly things with a good plot or music, not really a huuuuuge fan of general action movies. Aside from Die Hard. 'Cause it's Die Hard.

Shows: Fringe, Dexter, IT Crowd, Dr. Who, and definitely It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Anything funny and/or sci-fi, probably.

Music: Anything with a melody. Another Cynthia, 4 Strings, Kenna, Gemini, Shpongle, Lana Del Rey, Zircon, Evanescence, Blackmill, Before the Dawn, Blue Foundation, Lindsey Stirling, Sarah Fimm, Tape Five, Time is Up, Apocalyptica (Metallica on cellos? hells to the yeah!), Ellie Goulding, Glitch Mob, Metric, The Killers, Beats Antique, Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service, Ronald Jenkees, Purity Ring, Grimes, blah blah blah blah. I could go on forever about music that I like.
Six things I could never do without
my brother and mom (does that count as two?)
delicious foods
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I plan to do after grad school (in general), and what I'll be doing the next weekend. Music (that I've heard, that I want to hear, that I want to make), how to keep having a life while in grad school, and what to try out making for dinner next.
On a typical Friday night I am
Going out downtown to check out some random band I've never heard of, relaxing at home after a long week in the lab, or hanging out with friends.
You should message me if
- you have any neat tattoos (not mandatory or anything, but they're cool!)

- you're looking for someone to make it through life with, who might be kinda (okay, pretty damn) nerdy
