My self-summary
It might be a delusion caused by too much gin and vermouth, but I consider myself a likable fellow: fair-minded, undemanding, and slow to take offense. I don’t ooze the milk of human kindness, yet I do my best to be inviting and friendly. Words used to describe me have included: “intelligent,” “honest”, and “good enough." Other, less kind words have also been used to describe me, but I decline to list those!
What I’m doing with my life
Currently, a graduate student in philosophy. The hope is to get a PhD and--God willing!--become a professor of philosophy.
I’m really good at
I'm good at nerdy academic stuff, though it seems my real genius is for procrastination, because I appear to spend the bulk of my time doing that.
The first things people usually notice about me
That’d be my eyes--my big baby blues! At least, I like to think so.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Placing aside academic articles and books, I mostly read fiction, classic to contemporary, arty to trashy. Favorite authors include (among many): Joseph Conrad, Thomas Hardy and Raymond Chandler. (I know, I know...all men.) My genre fiction of choice is crime and mystery, especially hardboiled and noir. I'm currently collecting and reading old pulp crime paperbacks--the ones with lurid covers featuring a buxom dame in dishabille menaced by a guy with a gun, or some variation on that theme.

I've watched A LOT of movies in my day, again classic to contemporary, arty to trashy. Favorite directors include (among many): Hitchcock, Herzog, and Altman. (I know, I know...all men.) I have a real weakness for horror movies, no matter how crappy. A maniac getting all stabby with a butcher knife (or choppy with an ax) is that kind of thing that can make my day.

Shows I like include: The Colbert Report, The Simpsons (classic seasons), Seinfeld, Bob's Burgers, 30 Rock, Archer, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Peep Show and a few more.

I confess, with a heavy heart, that I don't listen to music that much these days, though when I do I favor singer-songwriters (esp. Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits), blues, and jazz.

Food is delicious, and I eat it with some frequency. I've got a big thing for noodles, which, happily, are employed in dishes from many areas of the world (Europe! Asia!). I also lust after ice-cream: the thought of a big bowl of cookies-n-cream makes my loins positively quiver.
The six things I could never do without
-Stephen Colbert [Colbert Report version. He's "On Notice" since he started the Late Show.]
-The voice of H. Jon Benjamin
-Something to read. Heaven forbid I be left alone with my own thoughts!
-I find the existence of doggies cheering, even though I don't have one.
-My precious bodily fluids.
-Someone to complain to.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how not to embarrass myself. Even so, I can't seem to stop embarrassing myself.

I also think a lot about sarcasm (I'm writing my dissertation on it), politics (those Republicans are awful), and the impending expiration of my youth (though I say I have a good 6 years left, at least).

I also often wonder what's so funny about peace, love, and understanding.
On a typical Friday night I am
doing something or other to pass the time. Mostly I'm lounging at home but there are occasional sightings of me out and about town. (Seriously, though, I need to get out more.)
You should message me if
It strikes your fancy.
(Or it strikes you fancy-wise, Miss Kubelik)
