My self-summary
Hi. My youngest son went off to college in the fall of 2015, so I now have the time and freedom to explore what’s next. While I loved raising my sons when they were home, it’s time for all three of us to move on to the next phase of our lives. I recently stepped down from my managerial position with a global company to give me more time and flexibility in my life. My “quest” is to find an intellectually stimulating and fun partner so we can explore together all the world has to offer. Ideally, we’d start out as friends, eventually becoming lovers, then who knows. Finding my life long partner in the process would be a tremendous bonus (which means the quest, at least for a partner, is over!)

What’s next? To pursue those things that interest me now that I have 58 years of accumulated wisdom and life experiences. I’m in the process of downsizing and simplifying my life, as I’m now interested in exploring mindfulness and my own spirituality, which speaks to lightening my possessions and moving away from my suburban lifestyle.

I’m also enjoying getting back to being me in how I live and see the world. I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Oakland recently, and really enjoy the funky, gritty vibe of Uptown. I’m been dancing more in the last six months than I’ve done in the past 25 years, which has been good for my soul and makes me smile. I also enjoy being outdoors, especially in Marin, as the vibe and the options there are as good as it gets for me in the Bay Area.

My overall goal at this point in my life is to positively impact the people I know and meet, while having fun and not always acting my age. I am certainly a responsible adult, who enjoys and appreciates the finer things in life, but I now prefer to collect memories and experiences, versus material things. Equally comfortable in a suit and tie, jeans and a t-shirt, or athletic gear, a good day often involves at least a few wardrobe changes. I enjoy going to Café Van Kleef as much as I enjoy getting dressed up and going to a formal event.

I’m working on spending more time with family and friends, while continuing to be active, which for me includes cycling, hiking, weight lifting and almost any outdoor endeavor. When not outdoors, I enjoy attending concerts, theater and dance events and art exhibits. I also plan to begin volunteering more in the local community, in whatever ways that turns out to be.

I’ve always had a passion for traveling, and I now have the time and means to explore the world once again on lengthy trips to places near and far. Starting in high school, I’ve spent an extended amount of time adventuring throughout the world, twice travelling for close to a year, throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East. I pick up Conde Nast and find scores of places I want to visit, then do the same with National Geographic Explorer. Know that I enjoy spending time in NYC, Paris or Rome as much as I enjoy traveling in Peru, Vietnam or Nepal. Most likely not on the same trip :). Closer to home, I have a house in Healdsburg, which is a great weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area.

Music is a big part of my life, and I go to live shows whenever I find one that moves me. My current Pandora playlist includes Morcheeba, Peter Green, Bill Withers, Funkadelic, Roxy Music, Stephen Stills, Steely Dan, Greg Allman, Pink Floyd, Al Green, Claude Debussy and J.J. Cale, to name a few.

I’m hoping to meet an intelligent, active, fun, fit, classy, open minded and adventurous woman who's knowledgeable about current events (and not by watching Fox News) and has an appreciation of music and the arts. The best match for me is someone who has spent time travelling or living in foreign countries, or has a strong desire to do so now that we have the time and means. I’m not looking to climb mountains or run marathons, but you should want to get off the beaten path in third world countries to truly interact with the local culture.

If you'd made it this far, you should know that I've tested positive for herpes. I've never had an outbreak more than the cold sore in my mouth every few years, so it has not impacted by life or my health.

With all you've read, please drop me a line if you’d like to know me better. I’m open to joining you in the favorite parts of your world, and hope you will join me in mine.
What I’m doing with my life
Working when I have to (at least I enjoy my job), playing the rest of the time. I stay current with world events, and make sure to find the time to work out every week to stay in shape, as I hope to continue to travel for years to come. My 79 year old mom went to Uzbekistan a few years back with friends. It's in my genes.
I’m really good at
Making the best out of any situation, listening, having empathy for others, planning interesting trips and adventures, cycling
The first things people usually notice about me
My blue eyes and my smile.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I have an eclectic taste in music, but still having a hard time with rap. I think my kids listen to it just to bug me. I'm always up for a live show, especially in smaller venues. Will read most anything that's well written, be it fiction or non-fiction, on paper or on-line. Read the Economist every week to stay current. Don't watch much TV, and prefer movies that aren't Hollywood blockbusters.
The six things I could never do without
Personal connections - sons / family / friends
Mental stimulation - music / reading
Being active - cycling / weight lifting / hiking
Passport - serious need to see the world
Fun and laughter
Love - which is why I'm here
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I want to do when I grow up, and where I want to live. Never worried, just curious, and not in a hurry to get there. How I can give back to the community now that my boys have left home.
On a typical Friday night I am
Whatever happens to come along, whether that's being home recharging the batteries, or out experiencing all the Bay Area has to offer. I'm not sure I ever have a "typical" evening.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm usually an open book, but not here. I'll tell you in person :)
You should message me if
You have a happy, full life, and you're looking for a relationship with a fun and communicative guy. I'm always open and honest, and if nothing else, getting to know me should be entertaining.
