My self-summary
a lover. of people and food. i play with it for a living.

just moved to Doha to help open a new restaurant. shaking things up on the eating scene.
What I’m doing with my life
defying odds, creating amazing food, helping strangers find smiles, reveling in the random and absurd. that's just the short list.
I’m really good at
giving great advice (but not following it myself), performing amazing feats with little to no sleep (i don't recommend this, but see previous), using chopsticks with both hands, holding doors open for strangers, making ice cream, zigging but not zagging, bringing people together....a few other things, including surprises, but i don't want to spoil all the fun.
The first things people usually notice about me
my quirky and sometimes hard to pick up sense of humor...possibly, but most likely my kind eyes or my sparrows' wings peaking out of my collar.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
a) le petit prince, the grand meaulnes, the book of laughter and forgetting, the curious sofa
b) the big lebowski, true stories, blue velvet, harold and maude, tampopo
c) oh so much good music out there. bonnie 'prince' billy and anything will odlham does, chuck ragan, danger mouse & sparklehorse, sunset rubdown, the rural alberta advantage, the national, papa m, mgmt, the knife, bjork, cat power, battles, blonde redhead, magnolia electric company, silver jews. just to name a few. don't get me started on pre-aughts.
d) too many foods to list them all, but definitely vegetables in all their seasonal glory. cuisine-wise, i go through phases.
The six things I could never do without
positivity, my friends, my thoughts, a good knife and some fire, music, beauty, magic, sex, inspiration, and something unexpected...apparently i can do without caring to count correctly.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
people's warped senses of so many people can be so oblivious to their surroundings (yes, you, the person that immediately halts on a busy subway staircase to check a text message)...what life would be like if unicorns still roamed the earth...simple twists of how to create the empire that I will eventually run.
On a typical Friday night I am
typically atypical.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
i have no secrets and will answer any question regarding my debaucherous past.

in the meantime, here's a fun little fact: i'm mentioned in will oldham's book.
You should message me if
you like a gentleman...a gentleman with a bit of an edge...

also, if this song and video speaks to you in any way:
