My self-summary
I’m a very sarcastic, level-headed and calm individual. I entertain the hell out of myself, and as a result I've been accused of being smug. I try not to get worked up over the little things… and I consider almost everything “the little things.” I do my best to be someone that my mom would be proud of. I try to be funny without being mean, I try to be charming without being arrogant, and I try to be kind without letting the world walk all over me. Of course, as a pretty normal dude, I screw all of this up regularly! Can I get an A for effort?
What I’m doing with my life
Physics is really hard. So, like an idiot, I'm trying to get a Ph.D. in physics from Auburn. One of my undergraduate professors convinced me this was a good idea... I must have been drunk, because I bought it. So, here I am, doing math for a living. I've been in school since the late Paleozoic era, but hopefully finishing and getting a job is somewhere in the cards. If that's the case, I hope to end up in a city that doesn't suck: Austin, Denver, San Fran, Boston, etc. I really don't want to apply for grants for a living, so I'll probably try to avoid academia. Robots are cool, maybe I'll make those for a living.
I’m really good at
I play the drums. I'm not Danny Carey or John Bonham, but I'm not atrocious either. I'm good at math, compared to most people at least. I'm good at coming off as a sarcastic asshole. The sarcastic part is absolutely true... the asshole part is sort of true, depending on context. I'm really not mean, but if you don't know me very well, you might get that impression.
The first things people usually notice about me
Sarcasm? Eye color? I've never "noticed myself" for the first time, so I really don't have any idea. You tell me!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Catch-22, Slaughterhouse 5, The Song of Fire and Ice series, Ender's Game, Childhood's End, The Metamorphosis. If it's written by Kurt Vonnegut, I like it.

Movies: Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, The Usual Suspects, LotR trilogy, The Big Lebowski, Gangs of New York, 28 Days Later, pretty much anything by Wes Anderson

TV shows: The Wire, The West Wing, Game of Thrones, Masters of Sex, Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, White Collar, Dexter, True Detective

Music: Tool, Isis, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Angels, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin. This list could go on and on and on... I absolutely love listening to music of (mostly) all kinds, but "music with guitars" is my favorite kind.

Food: Spicy! Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican. If it melts my face, I'm probably enjoying myself
Six things I could never do without
Not getting shot. Pets. The internet. The Red Sox. Pool. My family.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I am an atheist. I have no problem with religious people, but I really dislike religion in an abstract way. Disclaimer: This has to be ok with you. I'm not even remotely interested in conversation to your faith. You're welcome to your faith... I'm no one's judge. But I just don't care about that stuff, and you need to get that.

"Suggesting I hate people with religion because I hate religion is like suggesting I hate people with cancer because I hate cancer."
-Ricky Gervais

I'm fairly jaded and disinterested in politics. Most public servants are very, very bad at their jobs. Neither political party impresses me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out for dinner and drinks with friends, streaming something on Netflix, playing video games, playing pool, going to the movies. If I'm out drinking, I may or may not be really loud...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Despite being somewhat outgoing and boisterous upon first meeting, I'm actually really shy and a private person in general. I have a hard time with small talk. If you think "that's not very private!", then re-read the part where it says "...I'm willing to admit."
You should message me if
You think it's not the 19th century anymore, and women can approach men without upsetting the balance of the universe. You take care of yourself, you are self sufficient, you are an adult (not just talking about age here)
