My self-summary
I'm originally from Scotland, but have been living in Helsinki for a couple of years. For work, I play with data in a software company. In my spare time, I love going out and exploring the city, but I also enjoy quiet nights reading, gaming or watching a good tv show. I'm partial to science fiction films, Indian food and New York City.

I'm currently dating someone, so only in the market for new friends. I'd especially like to meet new people to go climbing or play board games with.
What I’m doing with my life
Working as a software consultant after bailing out of a career in research. Trying and failing to recreate the kind of board game group I had back home. Bookmarking new recipes I want to cook but then getting lazy and eating peanut butter jelly sandwiches instead.
I’m really good at
video games, math, and making myself look like a dork.
The first things people usually notice about me
These days, it seems to be my accent.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Picking my favourite books is too hard, so I'll list favourite authors instead. They include: Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Neal Stephenson, Brandon Sanderson, Cory Doctorow, Stephen King (Dark Tower, mostly), Brian K Vaughan, Mark Millar, Ursula Le Guin, Robert Jordan, Jim Butcher, and Christopher Brookmyre. Science fiction and fantasy stuff for the most part. Right now I'm in love with Steven Erikson's books.

My five favourite movies are, in no particular order, Lost in Translation, High Fidelity, The Princess Bride, Blade Runner and Garden State.

I probably watch too much TV. Objectively, I think The Wire is the best show ever, but for assorted sentimental reasons, The West Wing is my favourite. Netflix is a dangerous place.

My music taste is all over the place- everything from Taylor Swift to Kendrick Lamar. According to LastFM, my five most listened-to artists are Bruce Springsteen, Biffy Clyro, Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit and Tegan & Sara. My favourite album ever is Ghosts and Heights by Crash My Model Car.

Food-wise, it's hard to beat good Indian food. I also enjoy pizza, good burgers, and sushi.

I like video games a lot, though I don't get to play as many as I'd like these days. My backlog is long and ever growing.

I'm also a fan of board games. Right now I can't get enough of Codenames, and Sheriff of Nottingham is also a lot of fun.
The six things I could never do without
Books, my close friends, the internet, The West Wing, plenty of sleep, and caffeine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The complicated nature of X-Men continuity, my friends, and where to get good brunch in Helsinki. If you've got recommendations, let me know!

I've also been trying to learn Finnish lately, which is hurting my brain.
On a typical Friday night I am
Climbing, out with friends for a beer, or sitting home watching Netflix. No set schedule.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I went to my senior high school dance wearing a suit that in my head made me look like Christian Bale in Equilibrium, but in reality made me look like a vicar.
You should message me if
You're geeky (about basically any topic), or you're a climber, or you're a geeky climber, or you'd like to talk to a geeky climber.
