My self-summary
You're probably not here...
You're most likely stripping paint off an old chest of drawers, or loading your kayak on the car, ready to embark on another adventure. Maybe you're perusing a map, planning a backroad trip on your bicycle or motorcycle, or possibly pulling weeds in your garden. Did I catch a glimpse of you in that old bookstore, or maybe you smiled at me as we passed in some eclectic museum? Your friends wonder why you're single, but I know it's because you're comfortable being alone. Maybe in the back of your mind you'd like to share this little journey they call life with someone special, but you just haven't found him yet...

I've been looking for you.

Kayaking, cycling, hiking, laughing, cooking, wining and dining, discovering new sights, discussing everything from current events to favorite artists, talking about big dreams and ideas. These are all so much better when shared with someone special.

After studying architecture and engineering in college, I fell into a career of commercial and residential construction. I was married, and am fortunate to have my impish 9.5 year old son half of every week. I formerly shared my house with a couple of retired greyhounds, but sadly, they're gone now. I do have a library full of books and a full workshop in my 150 year old house; I'd love to give you a tour.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a builder who works primarily North of Boston. I'm always on the search for interesting jobs, and try to spend some time every year doing something for the community.
I’m really good at
Anything that involves my hands and brain. Building, fabricating, fixing, planting, carving -even grilling! I restore antique clocks as a hobby just to keep my dexterity up and my mind sharp. I love to learn new things, from a sport to a recipe to something less tangible. I strongly believe in challenging myself regularly.
The first things people usually notice about me
My parents were a schoolteacher and a very successful salesman who always seemed to know someone anywhere we went, I've inherited those genes, and I'll engage anyone in conversation, from your grumpy dad to that PhD friend of yours no one understands... and I'll find something in common with each of them.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
All these books and I'm supposed to pick a favorite?? Ok, Mike Mulligan's Steam Shovel, Coelho's Alchemist or Hawking's Brief History of Time. I've read pretty much everything Dan Brown, Ken Follet, and David McCullough have written. Movies? I have a ton of favorites: Cool Hand Luke, Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition, Mars Attacks, The Magnificent Seven, Highlander, Evil Dead II...Music? My tastes run from the Ramones to Johnny Cash, and anything by Led Zeppelin, although I've been listening to a lot of alternative rock lately, I'm also an 80's music trivia buff, try me...I have over 3000 songs on my Ipod, what's your pleasure? I watch very little television, although I'm a fan of the Simpson's, House, Lost, Game of Thrones and any sci-fi or home improvement show. Food?...I'll try pretty much anything, although I like simply prepared food if I'm doing the cooking! A good local microbrew, singlemalt scotch or glass of red wine is always nice with dinner, too.
The six things I could never do without
* My memories, particularly of my two best friends, both gone way too soon. Rest easy Brian and Ted.

* Exercise, preferably in fresh air.

* A good book closeby, any recommendations?

* A good sense of humor. Mine and yours.

* Curiosity. Yeah, it didn't serve the cat well, but I'll hang onto it for now.

* Tantalizing conversation, snarky banter and wit. Captivate my mind and you'll win me over.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Wow, this is deep... I spend a lot of time wondering how I got here (online dating.) This isn't even remotely where I thought I'd be at this point in my life. What about you? I certainly can't be the only one...
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with my friends. In the Spring and Summer I would have just wrapped up a 24 mile ride on the bike.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Since losing my third greyhound in July, I'm missing her unconditional love and trying to decide whether I need my heart broken again.
You should message me if
You have a slightly sarcastic side and think you can keep me on my toes.
You kiss passionately, no matter who's watching.
You're very active and think you'd enjoy cycling, kayaking, or whatevering with me -I'm always open for an adrenaline rush.
You don't mind getting your hands dirty.
You consider yourself "low maintenance"...lots of make-up really doesn't do much for me, sorry.
You have a good heart (figuratively speaking, of course.)
You're considerate to those around you.
Any of this resounds with you...
