My self-summary
...is as follows:
I'm from Upper Michigan, but now live just outside Minneapolis (Plymouth, to be specific). I'm a fan of books, sports, movies, humor of all descriptions (smart humor especially), and the serial comma. I'm not really a fan of people being angry, using cell phones while driving, attempting to be persuasive about politics or religion, or any combination thereof.

I will respect your right to root for whatever team (or lack of team) you like, logical or not, as long as you respect my right to root for Detroit's Red Wings, Tigers, Lions, and Pistons and the US national soccer teams. This basic reasoning also applies to political and religious affiliations.

Despite being neither lithe nor particularly furry, I would describe myself as cat-like: I prefer to observe as much as possible before deciding whether I like a situation or person. If it's good, I'll curl up in its lap; if not, I'll go hide under the bed. Metaphorically speaking.
What I’m doing with my life
...is 9-to-5-ing it (actually 8 to 5) in the suburbs. The commute from Plymouth to Medina and back is... harrowing.... Then again, Plymouth alone has about twice as many people as the entire county where I grew up, so any amount of real traffic is bound to seem awful to me.
Also, I just signed on to play in a soccer league this summer. I'm out of shape. What the hell was I thinking??
I’m really good at
...being organized, using good grammar (which comes in handy as a technical writer), retaining useless trivia (while forgetting useful things), getting excited about things many people are only vaguely aware of (say, curling), and knocking remote controls to the floor.
The first things people usually notice about me
...are totally unknown to me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
...are:

Books: I love reading most things that don't read like a textbook. All-time favorites include The Lord of the Rings, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Ender's Game, A Tale of Two Cities, Harry Potter and the Various Ruses and Diguises of Lord Voldemort Except for the One Where the Bad Guy Turned Out to Be a Good Guy, Sherlock Holmes, anything by Mark Twain, Where the Red Fern Grows.

Movies: Anything funny (particularly anything involving Mel Brooks and/or the Muppets) and/or romantic and/or good drama. Specific favorites include The Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Miracle, Juno, The Shawshank Redemption, V for Vendetta, and Catch Me If You Can. I'm not into horror or action films, but I like a good thriller (say, Red Eye or Inception) or something character-driven (like Good Will Hunting or 50/50). I was blown away by how deep Inside Out was.

TV: The Big Bang Theory, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, New Girl, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, NOVA, Home Improvement, M*A*S*H, Castle, Sherlock, Red Wings hockey games, Team USA soccer games, World Cup, the Olympics.

Music: I generally gravitate toward mainstream classic or contemporary rock... and Weird Al. (Although, depending on my mood, it might be almost anything except country and screaming-into-a-microphone.)

Food: Pizza, above all. Lasagna, Yooper pasties, spaghetti, cinnamon toast, strawberry ice cream, chocolate chip cookies.
The six things I could never do without
...in no particular order, are:
escapist entertainment (books, the Internet, TV, hockey, etc.),
sleep,
a car,
tasty edibles,
a place to decompress, and
time to decompress.

Wordplay is a close seventh.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...what I'm doing later, what I have to do tomorrow (and why I didn't do it yesterday), and "What the hell was I thinking?"
...what it would have been like to have been the boy Shakira (for example) had a crush on when she was 12.
On a typical Friday night I am
...looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday? I don't go out a lot, but I might be watching hockey, out for a walk, watching hockey, staying in with a book or a movie, reading about hockey... or powering through a week's worth of Jeopardy! from the DVR.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
...is that I would dearly love to be on Jeopardy! someday.
You should message me if
...at least one of the following is true:

-Reading and learning are important to you.

-You also like the Red Wings or curling (or you are at least willing to tolerate someone who does).

-You actually read all the way down to here...?
