My self-summary
Before I describe myself, let me explain why I’m here. I am looking for the “big relationship”; romantic, passionate and full of loving kindness, mutual respect and trust. Everyone on here says that, but I think it is hard to find. At middle age, we are all a bit damaged and perhaps less inclined to love someone new with a totally open heart. But I believe dating websites are really in the “hope business” and if we keep trying, there is a joyful future awaiting us all.

My ideal is a house full of visiting kids, his and mine and their friends …..chatter and music punctuated by happy barking dogs. I have had a big life, with a high profile career, lots of travel and drama, so this ideal is something I’ve missed and very much long for. Ours is the house where the kids want to hang for the holidays.

Now, about me. It’s tricky to write about myself because I tend to defy categorization – I am a flurry of contradictions. But here goes….
I have had a busy, far-flung career through many of the world’s journalistic hotspots and have seen the worst of mankind but I have kept a youthful outlook and believe in the end there is hope for us all. Big issues are solved by small personal actions and I try to fit volunteering with the homeless in whenever I can.
What I’m doing with my life
I love the world's great cities; especially the Italian ones but I crave being out in wild nature. I lament that it gets harder and harder to find it these days. I’m a city girl who spent a brilliant two weeks in the bush at Gwaii Hanaas in Haida Gwaii, (Queen Charlottes). But I feel just as at home in NYC and Chicago.

Self-centeredness is a turn off for me. Also, I like nice things as much as the next girl but incessant shopping and label-hounding is a bore. That said I can be a girly-girl and I take pretty good care of myself and love clothes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read New Yorker, Harpers, and a lot of non-fiction including Gladwell and Bryson. Carolyn Knapp, Susan Cheever and her father John, Pat Conroy, Jean Vanier and Thich Nhat Hanh have all impacted my life in significant ways.

On television, I love The Office from both countries. Walking Dead is great. The first season of The Wire is a miracle.

My taste in films is all over the map. Indie films are cool but I get kick out of schlock horror too. Shawshank Redemption, Apocalypse Now, Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Grey Gardens and Spinal Tap are in my top ten.

Musically I love the Smiths and the Cure along with Patsy Cline, Blue Rodeo, Cold Play and Tafelmusik. Of course, Joni, Neil and Gordon top my singer-songwriter list. I saw Carrie Underwood in Hamilton and she was amazing.
