My self-summary
The last time I was on OKC, I was 29. Time is clearly a thing. I think I am smarter, funnier, nicer, and more self-aware these days, hopefully anyway. Also new is that while I've dated guys and gals before, I haven't started using the b-word until recently. Feeling pretty legit about it.
What I’m doing with my life
I work at a girls' school in DC. Most days it feels like my dream job, which is pretty good, I think.
I’m really good at
Following rules, Monday-Thursday NYT crosswords, tuning out the shrieks of teenage girls, sympathy and empathy, using an outside voice in an inside voice situation, reading people, grammar, whipping up a snack, picking songs on a jukebox, overly carbonating a SodaStream beverage, sticking up for the little guy (or gal).
The first things people usually notice about me
My expressiveness, hopefully my kindness, my semi-boisterous laugh.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Revolution stories (Ideological Origins of the American Revolution, Revolutionary Summer, Founding Brothers), hero stories (Song of Roland, Lattimore's translation of The Iliad, Lincoln biographies), war stories (Killer Angels, any Tim O'Brien, Matterhorn and other Vietnam stuff), Civil Rights stories (Taylor Branch, Howell Raines, Anne Moody), human stories (Anne Tyler, Richard Russo, Kazuo Ishiguro).

Jane Austen adaptations, Shakespeare adaptations, rom-coms.

Ben Sollee, Teddy Thompson, Jon Bellion, Kings of Leon, Gregory Alan Isakov, the Miles Davis mono recordings, the Japanese House, 90s alternative stuff, the 70s radio on Spotify, a well-crafted pop anthem (I credit my daily association with the 12-18 year old set).

MSNBC, Homeland, West Wing, Newsroom, Mad Men, House of Cards, brooding British miniseries like Wallander and Broadchurch (and, yes, Downton Abbey), and the occasional medical drama.

Lots of podcasts.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Good guitar riffs in my favorite songs, people sitting next to me on the bus, whether my neighbors can hear me singing in the shower, what epigraph I'd use for a book, if Fanny Price and I would have been friends, whether my students can tell what I'm thinking when they say things like "Locke? John Locke? Oh yeah, I know him; he was on Lost!", why the Oxford comma exists and what I can do about it.
On a typical Friday night I am
In my office at work listening to an inspirational Spotify playlist while trying to slay my to-do list, watching Rachel Maddow, hanging out with my roommates, taking a train to Bmore to see my fam, at a happy hour, reading New Yorker articles I've saved for the weekend.
You should message me if
You know who you are, you don't know who you are yet, you think movies could be funnier without Will Ferrell, you like salsa, you could/would like to contribute something to trivia night, including wildcard and/or music rounds, you're pretty informed about and/or interested in the world, you wonder if Myers-Briggs Type Indicators mean anything, you see the virtue in workaholics and in people who only vaguely but enthusiastically understand the rules of football.
