My self-summary
i won't say i'm against self-summaries, but they're fairly reminiscent of resumes, which i tend to avoid unless they're hand-written in crayon. i'm passionate about education, affordable housing, equality, grassroots movements, local innovation, human beings, technology, creativity, socially-conscious approaches business, castellano, cafe con leche, soul music, soul food.

i'm a polish, formerly undocumented immigrant, who grew up in Chicago. i speak porteno spanish. i deeply believe that borders constrain basic human freedoms.

i love people who can draw unlikely parallels; they usually tend to blow me away.
What I’m doing with my life
i work for a semi-contagious nonprofit - we do social innovation and a bunch of crazy-ass high-level thinking. i think? i'm enjoying the freedom it gives me in both the physical and creative sense. i photograph. i edit videos. i'm fighting to save a house in the mount pleasant community, so it can remain an affordable space for artists and activity. don't all people deserve to live in nice, safe neighborhoods?

i'm at a point in my life where liberally exploring various skill-sets is hella exciting, and a refreshing change from the somewhat boxed-in education system i had grown frustrated with. i'd love to travel more, packing light.
I’m really good at
from an existential perspective? flexibility and resilience. overall? first dates.
The first things people usually notice about me
eyes in the fall (depends on the backdrop, right?). freckles in the summer.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
lately, motown, r&b, funk, neo-soul -- prince, lauryn hill, tlc, aaliyah, salt-n-pepa, erykah badu, ciara, alicia keys, beyonce. i know, i know - everyone is obsessed with b's new album. i'm a sucker for smooth female vocals.

i read anything i can get my hands on. huge believer in the power of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction -- russian lit, borges, ee cummings, gloria anzaldua, stuart dybek, the little prince, hemingway (the man and the myth). i go on frequent natgeo and fastco binges - who said print was dead?

i try to stay up on news, current events, politics -- i'm completely disillusioned with 90% of western media outlets.

food-wise? comida mexicana, anything spicy, pad thai, curries, peanut butter, beans, cilantro, basil, falafal, cheese, white wine, red wine, all wine really. a bottle of argentine malbec goes a long way.
Six things I could never do without
my mum
laughter/human contact/communication
good beer or wine (clearly i haven't said that enough)
rhythm in music and images
I spend a lot of time thinking about
approaching immigration issues from an apolitical standpoint, empathy, apathy, how in the world oil painting works, what i'd like to eat for brunch (perhaps the best meal of the day)
On a typical Friday night I am
out and about dancing. or in, spending time with friends, family, housemates, books, housemate's cat (in DC), my cat (in Chicago).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
i think i'm actually more intense and sensitive than i'd like to believe, but not in an intense way...if that makes sense? i try to play it cool though.

i also have a big crush on sheryl sandberg.
