I am living outside Lexington, VA while I apply for graduate school. I lived in NYC for the last five years, had a wonderful and successful time, but I'm ready to move forward in ways that the rent in NYC couldn't 'afford' me. sorry, that was awful.
:) I didn't grow up here, but my parents teach at W&L and SVU, are fantastic people, fantastic artists, and have a fantastic cabin that I can live in.
I was the first active professional figure model to be hired as the Model Coordinator at the Art Students League of New York. This is the job I left to pursue my own artwork.
This is what I'm up to: emma-shapiro.squarespace.com
I attempt to use my body to represent history and humanity. I explore through my limbs and skin my personal connection to my ancestry by documenting events involving my body in space. This is not only an investigation of my identity, but an effort to break away from my individuality; I want to represent the human and female form as a timeless event, ephemeral yet fixed through genealogy and physical memory.
