My self-summary
I'm an ambivert, a photographer and a sensitive Creative. Endlessly curious about almost everything (well, Goth not so much...).

I'm really open... to see, hear, taste, feel life. I'm in the moment, sometimes intense, most of the time curious... always observing.

I love ideas... especially connecting what seems like opposite ideas into a whole new perspective. Rambling passionate conversations full of laughter and tears - that take us anywhere except where everyone else has been - energize me.

I like to get going, make things happen... enough planning already!

I believe each one of us has innate gifts and talents that we are obliged to share with the world... in doing so we make it a better place for all of us.

I like the idea that 1st dates are like trying on swimsuits… most don’t work at all, some are ok, and there are a very few that look/feel really good. I don’t feel badly at all for the swimsuits that just don’t work. Same thing applies to 1st dates that just don’t work… we wish each other luck in our search, forget it, then move on to the next date. Every 1st date that doesn’t work moves us closer to the ones that do…
What I’m doing with my life
Working hard on my art... satisfying the muse and my photography lust. Encouraging my son's pursuit of a life in music. Striving to understand Jung's work... this is a big joyful pursuit that is utterly fascinating! Revelling in life, in all its mysterious profound incarnations - shadow and light, yin yang.
I’m really good at
Shooting & editing fine art nudes, mixing martinis, punning, cooking a delicious little something from scratch, seeing the humour & life in the unpleasant, laughing at myself (a lot lately... LOL), identifying vocalists in obscure older pieces of music, thinking outside the box, swimming - I'm a true water baby, gently challenging preconceived/assumed notions, encouraging friends to pursue their passions, repartee... can banter with the best of them.
The first things people usually notice about me
...my openness/honesty and smile? Ha ha... you'll have to decide that one for yourself.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - an even mix of fiction & non-fiction - usually 3 or 4 going at the same time: James Hollis' Eden Project, Robert Connelly's Hieronymus Bosch series, Rita Mae Brown's early work, Louise Penny's exquisite Chief Inspector Armand Gamache mysteries, anything about or by CG Jung, Calvin&Hobbes, Brooks Jensen's essays on creativity and photography, HL Menken, all of Joseph Campbell's work (written and on video).

Movies: Grand Budapest Hotel, Silent Light, The Fall, Baraka, Slaughterhouse 5, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, prefer indie /European /documentaries /comedies over Hollywood any day.

Shows: TV-less for 6 years now. Netflix favourites: The Good Wife, Foyle's War. DVDs from the library: In Treatment, Bill Moyers, and the inimitable Rick Mercer Show - esp the skinny dipping scene with politician Bob Rae... oh my, only in Canada!

Music: dedicated CBC2 (esp The Signal), CBC1 & KPLU (NPR) listener, Elbow, my son's progressive metal band The Nautilus, EVERYTHING by Arvo Pärt, Gregory Porter, John Hiatt, Chopin's Nocturnes, Lyle Lovett, Sufjan Stevens, Peder, Leonard Cohen, The Band, Jann Arden, Holmes Brothers, Curtis Steigers, Bjork, Efterklang, Blind Boys of Alabama... blues, indie, jazz.

Food: deep bodied red wine & stinky cheeses!, any real food made with love from any culture, Baltic smoked eel and sprats, baking my own sweet & sour sourdough rye bread - plus kringel/bagels. Cooking: Indian / Thai /French/Italian, cherries / passionfruit / mango, tomatillo mango salsa, grilling halibut, the smell of: lime, freshly grated nutmeg, rosemary & cardamom.
Six things I could never do without
My camera, a sweetheart, passport, an honest/creative/optimistic nature, books/art/music, family and close friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
... the heartbreaking world we're leaving our children & grandchildren.
... when exactly did we all agree that a healthy economic bottom line is THE final end-all and be-all barometer of a healthy happy society, eh??? I demand a do-over!!!
... how we Greyhairs can regenerate our 1960's "this situation is unacceptable" indignation & courage in the 21st c to continue our mission of making a better world... time to dust off the protest signs people!
On a typical Friday night I am
- planning a shoot for the weekend, or
- rabble-rousing at a gallery opening, or
- at home reading a book & listening to CBC2's The Signal, or
- writing a post on my blog, or
- attending a Jung Society evening
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I told you here, I'd miss seeing you blush...
You should message me if
...you want to make a genuine connection with someone who's authentic, passionate, brave AND fun, doesn't fit any known mold, is really creative in every way. Because I love & accept who I am and how imperfect/perfect that is in its own way... of course, I want to experience YOU being fully who you are as well!

If you feel the tug of that thread that connects you and I... tug back.
The two of us
