I grew up in the middle of the Canadian Rocky Mountains playing ice hockey and skiing during the endless winter. After I finished school, I decided to go on a short adventure to the southern United States where the summers are long, hot and humid, and the fishing is top-notch. Several years later I left the South with a pair of post-grad degrees and moved north to Michigan in an attempt to slowly re-acclimatize to Canadian winters. Eventually, I realized northern winters are cold...brrr! I wanted to find somewhere a bit warmer, but not too warm, so I decided to try out Australia. The winters here are definitely warmer, but the houses sure seem to have been designed to maximize the coldness in winter!
During my travels, I’ve developed an inordinate fondnesss for playing ultimate Frisbee, bushwalking and getting together with friends to play board games and socialize. Or is it socialise here? I'm still trying to figure out Australian English and the hatred of zed's in the middle of words and r's at the end of words (e.g beah, watah, showah, etc.)...
Life in Australia thus far has been a blast and I’m hoping to find a nice Australian girl to settle down with here, or perhaps to join me on new adventures somewhere else.
I'm also exploiting my career using it to go on a slow motion trip around the world. If things go as planned, I should finish my first complete trip around the world sometime in 2014. It will be a LOT slower than Jules Verne, but still, it will be neat to be able to say I did it!
I'm currently reading Twilight in the Desert which discusses the future of oil in Saudi Arabia. I recently devoured The Millennium Series (e.g. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The series was a lot of fun to read! I also enjoy reading most books by Bryce Courtenay and Wilbur Smith.
Recent favorites are: True Grit, The Reader, and The King's Speech. My all time favorites are the original Star Wars movies. I also enjoy a lot of movies by Pedro Almodovar. They are generally pretty quirky and funny.
Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Northern Exposure.
I like a little bit of most things.
